If You’re Really Upset About Betsy DeVos Confirmation Consider Running for Local School Board
President Obama’s former campaign manager pointed this out today.
If you are really upset about the Besty DeVos confirmation consider running for your local school board. It's the best way to fight back.

Matt Yglesias wrote a very important post on Monday that pointed out how much the protests of Dem voters have already moved the needle.
The big lesson of Trump’s first 2 weeks: resistance works
“Protests, phone calls, and mobilization are making a difference.”
Yglesias points out that the only thing we have to fear is discouragement itself.
“For the moment, Trumpism holds the vast preponderance of political power despite its thin electoral base. That means Trumpism will make progress, even in the face of effective resistance. But for the positioning to hold, Trump needs to convince his opponents that they are failing, so the prophecy will become self-fulfilling.”
“That is why it’s crucial for Trump’s opponents to be aware that protesters’ efforts are not futile. We know they can succeed, because they are already succeeding. What’s needed is for Trump’s critics to continue to resist the siren song of sectarianism and keep at it. If they do, Trumpism will be buried.”
Today Trump and the GOP were gloating over confirming DeVos despite such strong opposition. Yes, but historically considered, a 50-50 vote where VP Pence has to break the tie is nothing to brag about. It shows that she has anything but a mandate to lead the Education Department.
And the fight against DeVos hasn’t ended, it’s just beginning:
“DeVos foes promise to make her job hell.”
“The fight to derail DeVos, while unsuccessful, has united a wide variety of advocates.”
And a lot of the opposition to her is in red states too. Jon Tester of Montana said he got thousands of anti DeVos letters, emails, and faxes, and very few in support. Other red state Dems-Heidi Heitkamp, Joh Manchin, Claire McCaskill, etc. reported the same.
“All indications are the same groups galvanized by DeVos’ nomination are mobilizing for new battles on issues ranging from tuition vouchers and protections for LGBT students in schools, to free speech and sexual assault disciplinary policies on college campuses.”
“Members of teachers unions, civil rights groups and parents organizations who jammed Senate phone lines say they plan to keep the spotlight on the Michigan megadonor and advocate of charter schools — and to devote their energy to scrutinizing the Department of Education.”
“The fight to derail DeVos, while unsuccessful, has united a wide variety of advocates who care about education, said Lily Eskelsen García, president of the National Education Association, the nation’s largest union. The union now has a “contact list to die for,” she said.
“The NEA says it gathered about 1 million email addresses of those opposing DeVos’ nomination and planned to mobilize that network of grass-roots activists to push back against the Trump administration’s agenda.”
“There will be no relationship with Betsy DeVos,” Eskelsen Garcia said.
Sorry, I like my Education Secretaries legitimate ok?
Anyway, I can’t see why the GOP wants to gloat about her confirmation. DeVos is going to serve as a constant source of mobilization.
P.S. If you enjoy my blog and my support of #TheResistance-I’m also considering a 2018 run against GOP Congressmen Peter King of the NY 2nd district-then please consider a donation.
