Roger Stone: it’s Reince Priebus’ Turn in the Barrel
Roger Stone is not a fan of the job Reince Preibus is doing as Trump’s Chief of Staff and if history is any guide Priebus should be worried. Never underestimate Roger Stone as everyone from Elliot Spitzer to John Podesta can tell you.
The FBI is investigating Stone’s ties to Russia’s hacking in the election but it’d be interesting to see if Stone’s fingerprints where anywhere in the demise of Anthony Weiner last Summer and it’s utility in getting us to the Comey Letter.
Now Stone has turned his fire on Reince Preibus who he accuses of being behind embarrassing leaks. So fitting for Roger Stone with his place in history as a Nixon man to be cracking down on leaks-we see how well Nixon’s plumber operation worked.
“Republican operative Roger Stone wants President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Reince Priebus, ousted from the White House immediately, claiming he is responsible for the extraordinary number of leaks plaguing the Trump administration.”
“Stone, a former adviser and longtime friend to Trump, suggested Priebus also played a role in Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn’s recent split from the administration. Flynn resigned as Trump’s national security adviser on Monday, following reports that he had discussed easing U.S. sanctions against Russia with the Russian ambassador just days after former President Barack Obama imposed the penalties.”
“It’s time for the little man to go,” Stone said on Thursday, referring to Priebus during an interview on “The Joe Piscopo Show” in which he predicted a massive shake-up in the White House.
“At the end of the day, you have leaks … about the president wearing a tattered bathrobe and watching television,” he said, referring to a New York Times report describing Trump’s White House rituals. “Those kinds of leaks are not coming from loyalists. They’re coming from Reince Priebus’ people, and he must bear the responsibility for them.”
On his interview with Chris Hayes the other night Stone insisted that he’d only spoken to Trump on the phone a few times and the conversations were totally boring. Not if the name Reince Priebus came up.
“Stone is one of at least four Trump associates facing an investigation by law enforcement and intelligence agencies after Flynn’s resignation and a New York Times report alleging “repeated contacts” between Trump’s campaign and the Kremlin. Stone has repeatedly denied the accusations.”
“Meanwhile, the Republican strategist ― who appeared to take no issue with WikiLeaks’ release of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s private emails ahead of the 2016 election ― now wants leakers to be punished. And he’s branded Priebus a leaker, though it’s unclear that there is any evidence to support his claim.”
Actually it went further than that-he claimed that Assange is some sort of hero who needs to be pardoned.
Now Stone insists that while a media friend of his spoke to Assange, the only info they got was that the emails were coming, no other info, no collaboration. But remember what he said back in August 2016:
“Trump Dirty Trickster Roger Stone: How ‘Hero’ Assange Could Help Our Campaign.”
“The conspiracist reveals he’s been in touch with the WikiLeaks founder regarding Clinton emails—and when to dump them on the media.”
Not to put too fine a point on this but… Isn’t this a clear public admission of collaboration? Isn’t that in itself treason, violation of the Logan Act among other things? Yes, I know we’ve never had a conviction under the Logan Act but then we’ve never had an election subverted by Russia before either.
If there are every real-public-hearings Stone needs to be asked about this:
“On the C-SPAN show, Stone told Politico’s Alex Isenstadt of his communication to Assange “through an intermediary—somebody who is a mutual friend”—regarding the 30,000 emails the Clinton staff deleted before turning over the contents of the server to Justice Department investigators. (Clinton maintains that only emails of a personal nature were deleted.) Asked to corroborate Assange’s threat of “an October surprise” to stem from that trove, Stone offered a suggestion he clearly deemed to be more helpful to the Trump campaign.”
And now Trump and Stone are outraged over leaks of classified info? Note that according to what Stone said here, he talked through this intermediary-Sean Hannity?-about the alleged 30,000 emails on HRC”s server not the Podesta emails. Again, isn’t this already clear admission of guilt? This is clear collaboration on the commission of a crime with someone the US government considers to have committed a very serious felony.
Stone, though, thinks Assange is a hero:
“Well, first of all, I think Julian Assange is a hero; I think he’s taking on the deep state, both Republican and Democrat,” Stone began. He went on to say, “I believe that he is in possession of all of those emails that Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills, the Clinton aides, believe they deleted. That and a lot more. These are like the Watergate tapes…”
“Stone knows a thing or two about the Watergate scandal, in which he played a minor role before moving on to bigger operations, such as the 2000 “Brooks Brothers riot” in Florida, when Stone organized dozens of Republican congressional staffers to storm the election board in Miami-Dade County, Florida, where a recount of presidential election ballots was taking place.”
“So not only was Stone there for the original Watergate and a big player in Watergate 2.0 but he was a big part of the stolen election of 2000 as well. Was he with Reagan when he convinced Iran not to release the hostages until after he was President?”
“What’s amazing is that the list of legitimate Republican Presidents is less than the list of illegitimate GOP Presidents in the PostWar era. Ike won two legitimate landslides as did Bush Senior in 1988. Reagan had 1984 but that was setup by his cheating on Iran in 1980.”
And Roger Stone has been there for all of it. Don’t underestimate Roger Stone.
