Roger Stone: History Repeats Itself First as Tragedy Then as Farce
For those who try to hand wave away the Trump-Russia story, need to explain why Roger Stone’s name is again on everyone’s lips.
Never underestimate Roger Stone.
Roger has been there for all the great moments of history going back almost 50 years. Watergate, but he was also instrumental in bringing down Eliot Spitzer. He was also behind: the Brooks Brothers riots of 2000 to shutdown the Florida recount that-had then been completed-would have shown Al Gore the rightful winner of the 2000 election.
Again from the tragedy of Richard Nixon to the farce of Donald Trump. In both cases centering around braking into the DNC.
We now hear talk about cracking down on leaks. Roger Stone was on-you guessed it, Russian state television-yesterday to demand a crackdown on leaks that he’s blaming on Obama appointees.
“Rumors of the US President’s ties to the Kremlin are based on nothing but loosely interpreted illegal leaks from rogue intelligence agents, former Trump adviser Roger Stone told RT, denouncing anti-Russian hysteria as neocons’ attempt to justify their warmongering.”
That’s right. Stone goes on RT to hand wave away talk that the Trump team coordinated with Russia during the election.
“It is absolutely categorically untrue. And the New York Times has reported that the FBI or more precisely “intelligence agencies” say they have e-mail transmissions, the transcriptions of the overheard conversations and financial records that prove this. Yet no one in the media, no one in the Senate or house Intelligence Committee and not the President of the United States has seen any of this alleged proof. So what we have here is an allegation based on the assessment of the intelligence agencies who are holdovers in this case from Barack Obama. I categorically deny this, Paul Manafort the chairman of Trump’s campaign has as well.”
“The real issue here in my opinion is that Donald Trump does not want to go to war with the Russian state over Syria. He favors détente and hard-headed negotiations with President Putin in the hopes that we can live in peace and perhaps work together to crush ISIS. So Trump was the peace candidate, the military and industrial complex in this country is very upset with his election, thus this allegation about Russian interference in our elections, which I stress again is entirely unproven.”
Doesn’t want to go to war with Russia?! Who does? Trump used this same weird logic at his Thursday presser: ‘I guess I could be a big hero and blow the Russian sub out of the water.’
Uh, no one wants to do that. OK, I guess Chris Christie said something in the primary about shooting a Russian plane out of the sky, But Christie ended up being a Trump guy. Certainly Hillary Clinton was not interested in that. No sober person wants that.
So we see this false choice being amplified by Stone as well as Trump.
We have the surreal attempt by Roger Stone to prove to us he didn’t work with Russia on Russian state television.
While Stone is outraged over leaks of classified info, he had wanted Assange to hack the supposed unseen 30,000 emails on Hillary’s email server.
“On the C-SPAN show, Stone told Politico’s Alex Isenstadt of his communication to Assange “through an intermediary—somebody who is a mutual friend”—regarding the 30,000 emails the Clinton staff deleted before turning over the contents of the server to Justice Department investigators. (Clinton maintains that only emails of a personal nature were deleted.) Asked to corroborate Assange’s threat of “an October surprise” to stem from that trove, Stone offered a suggestion he clearly deemed to be more helpful to the Trump campaign.”
