Trump WH Attacks Andrea Mitchell (!) as Running Democratic PR
Which sort of shows how well Susan Rice’s interview with Mitchell went. In point of fact anyone who has watched her for any length of time knows she’s not a Democrat.
“Dan Scavino, director of social media for the White House, hit NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell for, he said, helping former national security adviser Susan Rice evade new scrutiny in the ongoing spying controversy.”
“On Twitter, Scavino reacted to an interview Tuesday that Mitchell conducted with Rice on MSNBC.”
“Andrea Mitchell is trying her best to help Susan Rice get through this interview. No credibility!” wrote Scavino.
“He followed up, using language similar to President Trump’s, tweeting, “Lyin’, leakin’ Susan Rice stammered through her soft ball interview with Dem PR person Andrea Mitchell.”
Pretty rich, considering how much Trump and his Administration lies on a daily basis, and that we only know about this whole furor over ‘unmasking’ via WH leaks to Devin Nunes.
There’s no question that now the GOP is desperate to make this not about Russian interference in our election but about Susan Rice, their fictional villain from Benghazi. Rand Paul is suddenly attacking her on Trump’s behalf-guess he really enjoyed his golf game with Trump.
“If you’re an ally (let alone an employee) of Donald Trump, the ever-widening Russia scandal has to have been disheartening. Nearly everyone agrees that the Russian government actively attempted to aid Trump’s presidential campaign, which might be possible to explain away as not Donald Trump’s fault, were it not for the fact that so many of his aides and associates have ties of one form or another to Russia, as does the president himself. So with each new revelation or phase of the investigation, the questions get more and more uncomfortable.”
“Which is why conservatives have been waiting so desperately for something, anything they can use to turn the story around to their advantage, no matter how ludicrous the arguments they make might be. And now they’ve found it.”
“And boy, are those arguments ever ludicrous. At this moment, the right wing media is going bonkers over reports that Susan Rice, who was national security adviser at the time, in 2016 requested the “unmasking” of certain U.S. persons who had been picked up in surveillance of foreign intelligence targets. Because those persons turned out to be associates of Donald Trump, conservatives have managed to twist this into the allegation that the Obama administration was “spying” on Trump and his campaign. Over at foxnews.com I count 11 separate articles about Rice on the home page. You can find similar screaming headlines at Breitbart, the Daily Caller, and all the other conservative sites — and don’t ask what’s happening on Twitter (if you want to get a taste of the lunacy, search #SusanRice).”
But the fact that the WH is upset with Andrea Mitchell’s interview tells us something: Susan Rice knocked it out of the park.

As Legum warns, Susan Rice is the new Hillary’s emails. Let’s not take the bait.

But she obviously did quite well in that interview which is why they are laughably claiming that Mitchell is Dem PR. Ludicrous-if anything Mitchell is Republican. Her husband is, at least, and as for herself she was obsessed with the emails during the election.

Overall, Jennifer Rubin is right: this whole furor over unmasking actually only digs Trump deeper into quicksand.
“The Trump spin squad appears so desperate to create confusion — Trump now reverts to airing old campaign canards about Hillary Clinton — that it has confused itself about what is helpful and what is not. When you hear breathless accusations from Fox Non-News hosts, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) or enlisted right-wing journalists eager for a scoop — ask yourself why it is the least bit unusual for national security officials to be looking for Russia’s points of contacts. It’s not, and it does not detract from the enormity of the scheme of manipulation, disinformation, cultivation and other tried-and-true Soviet-style techniques unfolding before our eyes. And that is merely what we presently know about the Russia-Trump scandal. One suspects that Trump and his pro-Russian associates — past and present, both those bought off and those wittingly or unwittingly enlisted to amplify Russian propaganda — know that there is much, much more yet to be learned.”
Indeed, I don’t think it helps Trump long term. In the short term the goal is to throw up smoke. But the question begs: why do so many Trumpsters show up in incidental collection of Russia?
It’d be interesting to see what the offending conversations were in these cases of ‘unmasking.’
There is no doubt a great deal we still have yet to learn. As John McCain says, there will be more shoes to drop in this story every few days which is why-he argues-we should have a Select Committee.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will
