Devin Nunes to ‘Temporarily Step Away From Russia Probe’
Eureka. The Dems were making some noise and it seems they got heard. Just last night we heard:
“Twenty Democrats on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, including ranking member Rep. Eliot Engel (NY-16), have called for Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) to be recused by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) from the House Intelligence Committee’s investigation into ties between Trump campaign and transition officials and Russia.”
“Nunes has come under fire for meeting with White House officials to view classified documents related to whether Trump or members of his team were under surveillance for Russian links. He also purportedly briefed Trump on the work of his committee, as well as relayed mischaracterized or misleading info regarding the documents to the media.”
And now, we see results in a breaking story:
“Embattled House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes will temporarily step down from the panel’s Russia investigation, he said Thursday.
“Rep. Mike Conaway will take control of the probe, with “assistance” from Reps. Trey Gowdy and Tom Rooney, the California Republican said in a statement. Nunes will still serve as the committee’s chairman and carry out his other responsibilities in the position.”
“Nunes, a Trump ally, has faced criticism from Democrats for his handling of the probe of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The committee has also looked into any possible links between the Trump campaign and Moscow.”
As I noted in an earlier piece this morning, Trump’s despicable attempts to slander Susan Rice recall Nixon in 1973 who belatedly concerned that LBJ had allegedly spied on him in 1968-you know, as he was committing treason by sabotaging Vietnam peace talks.
It echoes the whining of Trump now: ‘Gee, it sure is unfair that I was being spied on as I colluded with Russia to steal the election.’
And, of course, Nunes has been totally involved with Trump’s efforts to obstruct justice. He released some phantom documents that allegedly vindicate Trump but he wouldn’t share.
Nunes is pretty indignant about being forced to step aside:

It’s pretty ironic though. While baselessly accusing Susan Rice of a crime, he himself may be guilty of leaking classified info for political gain.
So we’ve just won anther skirmish, Team Democrats.
Nunes stepping aside in House Russia investigation, is the second GOP ally of White House to do so, following Jeff Sessions recusal.

Obviously, there is a lot of fighting in front of us, but we’re clearly making good progress.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will
