This whole caper just gets weirder and weirder. The Trump WH is in the position of having to decide whether it lost track of the Carl Vinson for a week or lied about its whereabouts.
“Donald Trump’s problem isn’t just that his administration is now claiming to have spent the past week not knowing where the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier was. His problem is that, as embarrassing as that admission is, no one believes it. It’s certainly possible for someone as absent as Trump to have been under the impression that he’d ordered an aircraft carrier to the Korean Peninsula, when in fact that aircraft carrier was instead three thousand miles to the south the whole time. But it’s not possible for gifted and experienced military minds like James Mattis and H.R. McMaster to have swung and missed on this.”
“When Mattis and McMaster claimed the Carl Vinson was on its way to North Korea, they were simply lying to the American public. Why? You’d have to ask them. But at this point we can’t even believe their explanation, because now we know they’re willing to lie on Trump’s behalf. This means that whatever good intentions these two solid military Generals may have had when they joined up with the Trump administration, he’s quickly compromised them to the point that they can no more be believed than someone like Sean Spicer.”
In the previous post we saw how Trump misused the NSA intelligence to prove his fake wiretapping claim.
Now there’s reason to think that the Pentagon itself if being co-opted by Trump. What happened in Syria? Did Assad really order a chemical attack? Was it actually a fake attack by an al Qaeda group of the rebels? Will we ever know?
The trouble: none of these actors are remotely credible. Assad and Putin aren’t. Trump certainly isn’t. Who knows who to believe? Similarly on this just shocking scandal on the Carl Vinson.
What the Trump Administration and the military said was false. But for some inexplicable reason the Russians and Chinese played along in this subterfuge:
“Nearly two weeks after the Donald Trump administration claimed it had dispatched the USS Carl Vinson to North Korea in response to Kim Jong-Un’s aggression, we now know that the Carl Vinson was never anywhere near the Korean Peninsula. After the media exposed that the ship had instead been thousands of miles away, the Trump administration is struggling to explain why it made the false claim. But it also raises the question of why Russia and China falsely claimed they were chasing the ship to North Korea.”
“Several members of the Trump administration began publicly making the claim back on April 8th that the Carl Vinson was en route to the Korean Peninsula. Is it possible that eight days later, Russia and China still hadn’t used satellites and tracking technology to figure out the ruse, and were mistakenly chasing a ship that wasn’t there? Is it possible that the Trump administration convinced Russia and China to play along and falsely announce they were chasing the ship? Neither explanation makes much sense, but one of the two must be true. This means Trump has even more to answer for.”
So not only did the Trump WH lie about the aircraft carrier, the Chinese and Russians played along with this lie. A choice of who to believe between the Trump WH, the Chinese, and the Russians is like would you rather be burned, poisoned or hit by a train.
If the Dems take the House in 2018, there will need to be hearings into this as well. There are more hearings that need to be done than there are days in the calendar.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
