Julian Assange Doesn’t Seem to Upset With Trump for Saying He’s Going to Arrest Him
So is it true-is Trump really going to arrest the man who helped him steal the 2016 election? Anything is possible-Nixon turned on Diem after Diem helped him steal the 1968 election.
-Trump mentioned Wikileaks 164 times in last month of election
-Assange is abt to face espionage charges

“US authorities have prepared charges to seek the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, US officials familiar with the matter tell CNN.”
“The Justice Department investigation of Assange and WikiLeaks dates to at least 2010, when the site first gained wide attention for posting thousands of files stolen by the former US Army intelligence analyst now known as Chelsea Manning.”
“Prosecutors have struggled with whether the First Amendment precluded the prosecution of Assange, but now believe they have found a way to move forward.”
“During President Barack Obama’s administration, Attorney General Eric Holder and officials at the Justice Department determined it would be difficult to bring charges against Assange because WikiLeaks wasn’t alone in publishing documents stolen by Manning. Several newspapers, including The New York Times, did as well. The investigation continued, but any possible charges were put on hold, according to US officials involved in the process then.”
Of course, for the Trump WH going after the NY Times and Washington Post could be a feature not a bug. Jeff Sessions is declaring a Holy War on leaks.
The US view of WikiLeaks and Assange began to change after investigators found what they believe was proof that WikiLeaks played an active role in helping Edward Snowden, a former NSA analyst, disclose a massive cache of classified documents.”
“Assange remains holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, seeking to avoid an arrest warrant on rape allegations in Sweden. In recent months, US officials had focused on the possibility that a new government in Ecuador would expel Assange and he could be arrested. But the left-leaning presidential candidate who won the recent election in the South American nation has promised to continue to harbor Assange.”
I’m a little skeptical that this is anything more than politics as I-Mike Sax-noted on Twitter.
I completely agree. I don't really understand this move. It sounds nothing but political to me.

Back to CNN:
Still, the move could be viewed as political, since Assange is untouchable as long as he remains in the Ecuadorian embassy, and Ecuador has not changed its stance on Assange’s extradition.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said at a news conference Thursday that Assange’s arrest is a “priority.”
One thing that’s clear: Assange doesn’t seem to be sweating this. After hearing the news about the alleged desire of the Trump DOJ to arrest him, this is what he tweeted out:
I’m just saying, this is not what I’d be tweeting if I really believed Trump as about to arrest me.
So what’s really going on? Who ever knows with a dishonest Administration like Trump’s. This seems like politics.
“Last week I told you there was buzz in intelligence community circles that the FBI could begin making arrests in Donald Trump’s Russia scandal as soon as this week (link). Today the Trump administration announced it’s seeking the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Much as I love saying “I told you so,” this is almost certainly not the arrest to which I was referring. Instead this is Trump trying a head-fake in the face of what I was referring to.”
“Here’s the giveaway that today’s move on Assange isn’t part of the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation: it was announced by Trump’s own closest allies, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and CIA Director Mike Pompeo (source: CNN). This is a last ditch attempt on the part of the Trump administration to essentially say ‘Hey, we can’t possibly have been conspiring with WikiLeaks to rig the election, because here we are trying to arrest the leader of WikiLeaks.’
Absolutely. Look at how Nixon treated Anna Chennault and Thieu after they scuttled LBJ’s peace talks in 1968 to make sure Nixon won. No honor among thieves.
The other side of it is, that this could be an attempt by Sessions for a precedent to go after other journalists. It comes down to whether you agree Wikileaks is really a journalistic entity or not.
Then again Mike Pompeo-who happily used Wikileaks during the campaign is legitimately angry about the leaks of CIA emails.
Back to the Palmer Report:
“WikiLeaks never released any Trump campaign emails or secrets during the election – but it surely has them and has been holding onto them as insurance. Will it spill the beans now that Trump is trying to have Assange arrested? Considering that Ecuador is already refusing to extradite Assange over his sexual assault charges in Sweden, there’s no indication that Ecuador will now give him up to the United States. The Trump administration knows as much. Is this merely an intentionally empty gesture? If so, it’s a last ditch one. And it tells you that Trump knows the FBI is closing in fast.”
True. If Trump is really trying to arrest Assange, then surely he will start releasing all the dirt there is on the Manchurian Candidate.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
