A Win for Mary Le Pen Would be Huge Win for Putin
Which is why he’s stepping on up on active measures going into today’s election.

Getting a pro-Russia candidate to win France (permanent member of UN Security Council) elections would be huge win for Putin https://t.co/mt5rbTantl

Russia is at it again:
“Almost one in four of the internet links shared by French users of social media in the run-up to elections were related to fake news, much of which favoured anti-EU candidates and showed traces of Russian influence, according to a new study.”
“The survey, by a UK-based firm, Bakamo, published on Wednesday (19 April), looked at 800 websites and almost 8 million links shared between 1 November and 4 April.”
“Of the links, 19.2 percent related to media that did not “adhere to journalistic standards” and that expressed “radical opinions … to craft a disruptive narrative” in what the study called the “reframe” category.”
“A further 5 percent of links related to “narratives [that were] often mythical, almost theological in nature” or discussed “conspiracy theories” in what the study called the “alternative” section.”
“The sources shared in these categories favoured anti-EU candidates both on the far right and the far left: Marine Le Pen, Jean-Luc Melenchon, Francois Asselineau, and Philippe Poutou.”
“They also favoured Francois Fillon, a centre-right candidate who is friendly toward Russia.”
“Bakamo’s research found that one in five sources in the reframe section were influenced by Russian state media known for spreading anti-EU disinformation, such as RT or Sputnik, and that one out of two sources in the alternative section had Russian roots.”
“The analysis only identified foreign influence connected with Russia. No other foreign source of influence was detected”, Bakamo said.
Of course, as we saw in an earlier post, James Comey also based his press conference on Russian active measures. Wish I was kidding.
In any case, the Russians are all in with LePen as it would given an anti EU voting parter on the Security Council.

As noted in a post yesterday, today is sort of a proxy war between Trump and Obama.
The good news: Obama is at 80% popularity in France. Trump is widely disliked. Even LePen hasn’t been able to hug him too closely. It’s possible then that Trump’s embracing her will hurt her. Hopefully, she won’t make the cut at all today-though this would be very unexpected.
Most expected seems to be LePen vs. Macron.
“French voters are going to the polls in the first step of a nail-biting two-round process to elect France’s next president. The election, which will choose a leader with some of the greatest executive powers among western democracies, has turned into a four-way cliffhanger after months of campaigning marked by embezzlement scandals, terror attacks, the collapse of old mainstream parties and the rise of candidates from the extreme right and left. On Sunday evening, when polling stations close, France will discover the two frontrunners who will face each other in a runoff on May 7. The names will provide an indication as to whether the eurozone’s second-largest economy will succumb to the populist tide shaking the postwar liberal order in Europe. The French have elected their president directly since 1965 (their first directly elected president was Charles de Gaulle, who was the instigator of this reform and won re-election that year). On Sunday, more than 45m registered voters will be able to choose between 11 candidates in polling stations open from 8am till 7pm or 8pm in the big cities.”
Please don’t make our mistake France. Learn from it. Let’s hope Adam Khan is right:

French people understand that dropping 50,000 bombs last year on Muslim countries hasn't made world safer and Le Pen isn't the answer https://t.co/10iC6VNKpo

P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
