The Resistance Has Had a Great 100 Days; but it’s a Marathon not a Sprint
Donald Trump has failed but America has succeeded is the way I think we should look at it. I discussed in an earlier post that while Trump has failed-we, the #Resistance made it so.
We must not forget that. So we’ve been successful. I would not say we’ve won. But we are winning though it’s in the early innings.
Of course, it’s a little complicated. As I argued in my last post, it’s not as early as some media flaks claim-who bend over backwards to be charitable to ‘President Trump’-something I still don’t say and never will say.
In a sense 100 days is not that early as most of a POTUS’ political capital evaporates with time. This is as much as Trump will ever get. It will get worse not better.
However, I do have some concerns about us over on Team Democrat. We are succeeding but there is still a lot of time and we have to keep on doing what we’ve been doing. I get that some folks are frustrated as Trump still has a lot of support from his base and he hasn’t been impeached yet.
I get it-I want him impeached yesterday too. But the chances of this happening prior to a Democratic Congress seem remote to me.
Louis Mensch argues otherwise that Trump will be impeached this year. Interestingly, Alan Litchman who correctly predicted Trump’s win thinks the GOP Congress will end up impeaching Trump too.
I don’t know. I hope so but this sounds optimistic to me. My working assumption is that it won’t happen until we get a Dem House-and then you have to go through intensive hearings first.
My worry though is some folks passionate to get this guy out-a passion I fully share-are becoming frustrated. We can’t afford that. I mean frustration is one thing so long as you don’t get discouraged.
Got this late last night. I know people are short on faith right now but this is exactly what I was told by someone in a position to know. https://t.co/gfYPdboLj1

Unless they involve Trump directly, my patience will continue to grow thin. https://t.co/puOcMqYOLh

The main point is things are going well. We just have to stay the course and not burn out because of lack of patience. Keep doing as we have and we’ll get there.
The media is a fickle beast. They’re coverage of Russia collusion has been all over the place. During the campaign they shamefully barely covered it. There were a couple of stories about it here and there but it never came close to leading the headlines.

As you can see, over the last 19 days things changed overnight after the Comey letter Emailgate dominated the headlines for most of the duration until it was almost over. Prior to that, Trump had a tough October. But even prior to Comey, at no time did Russia collusion came up. Finally it did at the 9 Am hour of 11/1-this due to efforts by Harry Reid and the Dems.
This after emails had dominated seven straight news cycles. After one cycle looked at Russia collusion it was back to Comey letter for next five news cycles.
The media waited till after the election to take Russia collusion seriously. But what you’ve noticed is that since Trump’s Syria strike, this story has no longer led the headlines. It’s been discussed. This is something that pundits try to obscure when talking about general election story. If you tell them Russia wasn’t talked about, they’ll link you one story that talked about it. But there’s a difference between reporting something as a one off with no follow through and a story leading the headlines as Emailgate clearly did and Russia collusion clearly didn’t.
Heck, this goes back to the first Watergate. In October a big chunk of voters hadn’t even heard of Watergate-as only the Washington Post reported on it with any staying power. No doubt, the Chris Cillizzas of the day were like Clearly Middle America doesn’t care about Watergate a story that obsesses liberals on the coasts.
Well it’s a crazy premise but maybe if they’d heard of it they might care more.
As for Russia collusion, we just need to stay the course. More and more info is coming out. The media is fickle but will get back to it. Right now their in this rather insipid phase of Trump’s First 100 days, which, while a failure, also puts more important stories on the back burner.
So vigilance, and stay the course my fellow Democrats.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
