The Media Failed Us in 2016 like in 1972; And is Failing Us Now
Clause Taylor a campaign guy who served on Bill Clinton’s staff is reporting that there are a couple of ongoing grand jury trials on Russia collusion already. Still, the media has been silent.
It's like when the media hid the Steele Dossier for months

A lot of people don’t believe something until it’s published in the NY Times or CNN.
I'm getting pushback because it's not on NY Times website or CNN. How long did they sit on now verified Steele Dossier? https://t.co/gfYPdboLj1

I understand that until it’s published by the MSM it doesn’t feel entirely corroborated. And maybe they do have a very careful process in verifying stories. But let’s’ not make the mistake of believing the MSM is the arbiter of truth. They are often late for the party-for bad reasons as often as good ones.
The NY Times for its part has a poor history in many regards. In 1972 they simply didn’t cover Watergate at all.
We had a right to know about this before the election.

JoAnne is right but, again, this happened in 1972. Ezra Klein talked about after the 3rd debate last year how the media likes to imagine that they’re pure observers of the news-denying that they also shape it just in terms of the necessary discretionary choices about what to cover and how much to cover it.
“There’s a deep tension in the way the media judges presidential debates. On the one hand, we know that our coverage affects the public’s ultimate view of the event — in that way, we are key participants in the debate, not merely observers of it.”
“But that knowledge is uncomfortable. It’s not the role we are meant to play. The press wants to reflect reality, not shape it.”
So the media denies it’s own strength. The Chris Cillizza take on 1972 would be ‘Gee, Middle America didn’t care a whit about Watergate; it was the obsession of media elites on the coasts.’
In truth these alleged media elites didn’t discuss Watergate at all outside of Woodward and Bernstein. In October, 1972, large chunks of the public literally hadn’t heard of Watergate.
So the NY Times didn’t cover Watergate but it did cover Whitewater. They were first to the party and stayed the longest. They also broke emailgate and literally worked with Steve Bannon in publishing Clinton Cash.
So much for the liberal NY Times.
But on Russia, they had nothing to say prior to the election. After their saturation coverage on the Comey letter
It's a fairly open-and-shut case. But the media's election post-mortems have mostly ignored it because it implicates the media's judgement. pic.twitter.com/cBLifP9WLu

they then did a piece from FBI sources that wrongly claimed there was no investigation of Russia collusion.
We rightly ask about how Comey hid the Russia investigation while going full tilt on Emailgate. But the media did the exact same thing. They refused to mention the Steele Dossier during the election and held on to it for six months.
So if you don’t believe Claude Taylor’s sources about the two grand juries, just don’t base that one the NY Times not talking about it. They don’t have much precedent there.
While the media failed us during the election-like they did in 1972-they have put their foot on the gas a little more now that there’s a racist crypto fascist in the WH.
Again, Silver has the data on before the election.

The media has certainly covered the Russia story starting in December when the 17 intelligence agencies publicly stated that Putin interfered on Trump’s behalf. At times, they’ve covered it with much energy.
But I notice that post Trump’s Syria strikes, the media tone has changed. They don’t focus on Russia anymore. Yes, there have been stories-like with Mike Flynn. But this hasn’t dominated the headlines as it was doing after Comey’s testimony.
So it may well be the case that Claude Taylor has info on something that will only later be admitted by the MSM. There is a lot of history in that regard.
I’ve bashed the NY Times but they did have an excellent piece about Comey’s email investigation a week ago. What’s notable though is that it had no legs in the MSM coverage. Even the Washington Post didn’t try to do it’s own story to keep up with the Times. Cable news has been silent about it-other than Rachel Maddow.
Heck, the Times itself had no followup coverage. Not a single editorial was published
Yet that piece was stunning.
It literally documented that Comey based his decision to do that July presser accusing her of ‘extreme carelessness’ on hacked documents from the Russians.
Yet crickets in the MSM. Where does this leave us? Just don’t lose sight of the fact that the MSM is always late to the party.
Certainly take sources like Claude Taylor and yes Louise Mensch seriously as they have a track record. On the issue of two grand juries already looking at Russia collusion, Rick Wilson has sources that say the same.
This just in from a source with knowledge of Comey's investigation. "two grand juries have convened and I know that one is almost complete."

So keep up with Taylor, Wilson, Mensch, Scott Dworkin at TrumpLeaks, the Palmer Report, PoliticsUSA, etc. No, they and their sources aren’t infallible. But neither are the MSM’s.
And what’s clear is that we have consistently gotten news about Russia collusion on a time delay from MSM.
Again, I make my appeal from yesterday: we are winning. We haven’t won though. And we must not get impatient or discouraged. But just keep on keeping on. If we do for the next few years what we’ve been doing, we’ll be fine.
Yep-marathon, not a sprint. Seth Abramson has just the same thing for worried Dems:

P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
