Senate Intelligence Committee: Carter Page Isn’t Cooperating
He had claimed he wanted to testify, but it seems that may just have been for public consumption. The reality is different.
“The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee issued a veiled threat to subpoena Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to President Donald Trump’s campaign, if he won’t willingly turn over documents for their Russia probe.”
“Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and ranking Democrat Mark Warner (D-Va.) issued a joint statement Friday saying they had learned he might not cooperate with their April 28 request for documents in his possession.”
He claimed he’s been cooperating but:
“”Three days ago, Carter Page told Fox News he was cooperating with the Committee’s investigation into Russian activities surrounding the 2016 Election,” Burr and Warner said. “Today we have learned that may not be the case.”
“The Committee’s April 28, 2017, letter asks Mr. Page to provide requested materials to the Committee by certain dates,” the senators continued. “Should Mr. Page choose to not provide the material requested by those dates, the Committee will consider its next steps at that time.”
“The statement was prompted by a letter Page sent the Senate panel brushing off their request for information.”
“In the letter, reported by CNN, Page suggested investigators should go to the Obama administration to get access to his communications, since he was reportedly under surveillance.”
It it me or do all the Trumpsters seem to be using the same Russian active measure: Sorry, Obama hate my homework?
In my last post I asked the question of whether Michael Flynn is Trump’s G. Gordon Liddy or his Howard Hunt.
It seems to me he’s closer to Hunt as Liddy was willing to literally take a bullet for old Tricky Dick-he said as much-whereas Flynn already has a lawyer and knows he has to save his own ass.
But there are a few competitors on who gets to be Liddy or Hunt. Nixon wanted to limit the investigation to Hunt, Liddy, and the five Watergate burglars.
The main fall guys so far in Watergate 2.0 are Flynn, Paul Manafort, Carter Page, and Roger Stone. Then there is Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen.
“Cohen’s Ukrainian buddy who worked with him on the huge giveaway for Russia back in February has now been stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship. Gee, sounds like the Ukraine thought his buddy was giving away the store to Putin or something! They clearly didn’t view this as an innocent conversation.”
“The Ukrainian lawmaker who met in late January with President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer and a prominent businessman in New York to discuss a controversial peace plan for Ukraine has been stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship, according to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty.”
“Andrey Artemenko was expelled from Ukraine’s Radical Party and has been accused of treason by Ukrainian prosecutors for meeting with Michael Cohen, Trump’s lawyer, and businessman Felix Sater in New York on January 27 to discuss a plan that would allow Russia to lease Crimea for either 50 or 100 years in return for Russia’s withdrawal from eastern Ukraine.”
“It now appears that Artemenko has been stripped of his citizenship by presidential decree, RFE/RL reported on Friday, citing the State Migration Service.”
“Reached for comment, Artemenko said he hadn’t received final confirmation from the government that he had lost his citizenship. But he said he is working on “an official statement” to give the press.”
“In a February interview with Business Insider, Artemenko insisted that he had done nothing wrong and that the treason charges lodged against him were unfounded.”
So that meeting that Michael Cohen had wit Artemenko-which ended with Cohen hand delivering a ‘peace plan’ that was very generous to Russia led to Atremenko losing his citizenship because of treason.
So if Artemenko committed treason by speaking to Michael Cohen, did Michael Cohen commit treason by speaking Artemenko? Then as the result of what was a treasonous discussion at least on Artemenko’s side, Cohen hand delivered a ‘peace plan’ to the Trump WH.
But I’m sure this is all a coincidence and that there’s nothing to see here. With Hillary just ‘bad optics’ would be enough to assume the worst. But with Trump and Russia collusion the media is more strict-there they want direct, incontrovertible evidence of a crime not just ‘bad optics.’
What is clear is that that meeting between Cohen and Artemenko needs to be very highly scrutinized in all its layers and particulars.
“The prosecutors also accused Artemenko of conspiring with Moscow to commit “subversive acts against Ukraine.” But it is unclear what role, if any, Russia played in bolstering the plan.”
“The New York Times, which broke the story of Artemenko’s January meeting with Cohen and Sater, said Artemenko told them he had “received encouragement for his plans from top aides to Mr. Putin.” Artemenko told Business Insider, however, that he had never spoken with any Russian officials about his ideas. Russia has also denied approving of, or even having any knowledge of, the proposal.”
“Greed, envy, and pride — it is their main defects,” Artemenko said, referring to the Ukrainian government. He said he thought the government felt threatened by him “because I’m alone and I have my own foreign allies, contacts, and supporters.”
Encouragement from top aides to Mr. Putin. What about top aides to Mr. Trump?
“When asked in February if he was still trying to get his vision heard by the US, Artemenko replied that he was.”
“I got thousands of phone calls and emails from people all over Ukraine supporting me!” Artemenko said. “People like my idea.”
“The January 27 rendezvous was not the first time Artemenko, a self-proclaimed Trump supporter, made contact with the president’s allies. Artemenko met with Trump campaign associates last year and offered to organize a meeting between Trump and Ukraine’s ambassador to the US, Valeriy Chaly. But Chaly ultimately refused to meet with Trump’s team, Artemenko said, because the Ukrainian government was backing Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton at the time.”
To be sure, Michael Cohen as Trump’s lawyer certainly qualifies as ‘a top aide of Mr. Trump.’
Note that the Ukrainian government supported Hillary, but the rebels who want to help Russia annex parts of the country were for Trump.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
