Maggie Haberman Says Trump’s the Leaker in Chief; Now She Tells Us
Interesting comments on Twitter by Maggie Haberman which kind of give me mixed feelings. But I can’t access her tweets personally-as she blocked me during the campaign-more on that in a moment. So I have to just cut and past the text.
“From Maggie Haberman, Trump whisperer extraordinaire at the New York Times:
“During the campaign, several advisers privately called Trump “leaker-in-chief,” bc of his tendency to be blurt stuff 2 friends on phone.”
“What is amazing is capacity of people who watched the campaign to be surprised by what they are seeing. Trump is 70. Ppl don’t change.”
Ok but here’s the rub. Why didn’t we in the public hear this little anecdote-leaker in chief-during the campaign? The focus of Haberman and her NY Times was that Hillary Clinton was the one not to be trusted with classified information.
When Trump again and again accused her of mishandling it and of belonging in prison, that might have been a nice time for Ms. Haberman to speak up. Indeed becuase of her and her paper’s anti Hilary bias she blocked me-after I criticized her.
You know me-I don’t use foul language on Twitter but I did let her know I didn’t appreciate it. I wasn’t cyber stalking her or anything. I tweeted her one day for the first time. I sent a few critical tweets and next it’s “You are blocked from following @maggieNYT and viewing @maggieNYT‘s Tweets.”
The NY Times is called liberal but I don’t know what this is based on. Ok, it’s editorial page tends to be liberal. But its investigative journalistic half has hardly been pro Democrat. Indeed, the way they covered Trump is very similar to how the Times covered Nixon in 1972: they studiously avoided talking about Watergate during the campaign.
Lo and behold-Watergate had little impact on the election. Surely, the Chris Cillizza of the time probably declared this is proof that ‘Middle America doesn’t care about this whole Watergate thing which remains an elite Washington DC story.’
Then in 1973, the Times had some very good reporting on Watergate-they hired Seymour Hersch, etc.
They did the same thing this time with Trump-Russia. They spoke very little about the story during the campaign. Not only did the Times not cover the Trump-Russia story but they put out an inaccurate piece a few days after the Comey letter that claimed that Russia wasn’t trying to help Russia win just create ‘general chaos.’
Notice that the Times-and the rest of the press-knew all about the Steele Dossier but refused to mention it. Oh, I know, it wasn’t verified. Do you know how many unverified stories about HRC’s email server and the Clinton Foundation were reported under the aegis that ‘It just looks bad; whether it’s true or not it contributes to a narrative Americans already believe about Hillary Clinton.’
As Ms. Haberman knew all along about Trump’s being such a blabber maybe she could have pointed this out when Trump tried to play the scold on classified info.
Indeed, despite the Times’ liberal reputation, the empirical record suggests that there is a simple rule to how the Times covers scandals about Presidential candidates: only scandals concerning Democratic candidates get mentioned during the election.
Think about it. The Times broke Whitewater and sure didn’t wait till after Bill was elected. They broke Emailgate and they went so far as to work with Breibart to publish the slanderous Clinton Cash.
Comey has been rightly asked why he treated Emailgate so different than Trump Russia. Sometime the Times-and the rest of the MSM ought to be asked the same.
Though the Times is a particularly flagrant offender.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
