Mike Pence is in Save Yourself Mode, Throwing Donald Trump Under the Bus
It sure took awhile, but the MSM is finally catching up to Mike Pence.
“Vice President Pence has a growing credibility problem.”
“There are more than a few people who look at Vice President Pence and see President Pence — possibly sooner than later. For wistful Democrats, it would be the end result of President Trump stepping aside or being impeached; for wistful Republicans, some dream of a more serious, less error-prone Republican president actually succeeding at passing a conservative agenda.”
“But as The Post’s Abby Phillip began documenting last week, Pence has hardly been immune from Trump’s foibles and from saying untrue things about them. And now twice in the past week, his defenses of the White House he serves in have been pretty directly contradicted in ways that seriously call into question his credibility.”
At first this may have been true, but for sometime a lot of Democrats have warned about Pence. He’s not the nice boy from Middle America who could never tell a lie. As The Fix notes, the most charitable interpretation of Pence is he just runs around repeating WH talking points with total credulity presuming they would never lie(!).
But it simply strains all credulity that Pence did not know about Mike Flynn being a Turkish agent all along.
After news that a Special Counsel has been reported, the Pence staff was also freaking out-normally the freaking out comes from the Trump staff.
There's total confusion and panic in the WH tonight. Not just among Trump's staff but Pence's too. Real concern Pence will go down w/ Trump.

Maybe because it is now finally dawning on them that they are implicated in Trump’s lies, obstruction, and abuse of power too. And let’s face it: there is only one person who cannot be criminally indicted by the Special Counsel and that’s Donald Trump. The only remedy for Herr Trump is impeachment which is why the GOP’s false narrative that the SC means you have to scale back Congressional investigations is risible.
But guess who can be indicted? Yup-Mike Pence and his staff. If they were sanguine before they are worried now. They pushed back on that Washington Post story about Pence’s declining credibility.
It was a very tough post. Conclusion?
In all three instances, Pence said something to defend the administration that in retrospect looks very suspect. Precisely what’s happening here is up for debate, but none of it is good for Pence’s political future.”
There’s an old African American saying-only the truth hurts.
Back to the Post:
This post has been updated with a comment from the vice president’s office.
Update: Pence’s office has issued a statement on this. It seems to suggest that Pence was indeed never told of Flynn’s ties to Turkey back in January: “The vice president stands by his comments in March upon first hearing the news regarding General Flynn’s ties to Turkey and fully supports the president’s decision to ask for General Flynn’s resignation.”
It’s not totally clear, though. “The news” could also refer specifically to reports that Flynn had just registered as a foreign agent. So is this saying it was the first Pence was hearing of that specific news or the first Pence had heard of Flynn’s ties to Turkey? I am seeking clarification.
(The Post’s italics, not mine).
Yes they are worried. And then Mike Flynn was back in the news yesterday pushing the claim that the Trump team knew from the beginning that he was a foreign agent of Turkey and that they were told that Flynn was being investigated by the FBI.
Again, Mike Pence led the transition.
With today's report that Flynn has turned on Pence, it looks like VP's staff has good reason to be worried after all https://t.co/mbhRs0AJ2P

Indeed, Pence loyalists are now pushing the narrative to the MSM that Mike Pence didn’t know nothing, not nothing about anything at all.
He’s like a kind of big, useless hood ornament with mittens or something.
The huge effort coming from the administration to protect Mike Pence should worry Donald Trump. https://t.co/u7IRPUhQ7N

“VP Mike Pence Was Never Informed About Flynn: Source>”
This source is: Pence loyalists on his staff worried both about their boss-and their own skins.
Vice President Mike Pence has been kept in the dark about former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn’s alleged wrongdoing, according to a source close to the administration, who cited a potential “pattern” of not informing the vice president and calling it “malpractice or intentional, and either are unacceptable.”
A pattern. Malpractice or intentional. What would Pence have done if they told him?
“This would be the second time that Pence claims he was kept in the dark about possible Flynn wrongdoings, despite the White House’s alleged knowledge of them. Earlier this year, Pence said he was not made aware of Flynn’s discussions with Russian officials until 15 days after Trump and the White House were notified.”
“The source close to the administration, who requested anonymity as the White House denies the story, is now saying that Pence and his team were not made aware of any investigation relating to Flynn’s work as a foreign agent for Turkey.”
“It’s also a fact that if he told McGahn that during the transition, it’s also a fact that not only was Pence not made aware of that, no one around Pence was as well,” the source said. “And that’s an egregious error — and it has to be intentional. It’s either malpractice or intentional, and either are unacceptable.”
So he’s the head of the transition but he knows nothing about any of this. Question: what is it that he did do in his role as head of the transition?
A White House aide said Thursday that Pence “stands by his comments in March upon first hearing the news regarding General Flynn’s ties to Turkey.”
“The source close to the administration did not blame President Donald Trump for allegedly not making the vice president aware, suggesting it was likely the president had assumed Pence and his team were “in the loop.”
So put this together. It’s a pattern even malpractice or intentional. But Trump is not to blame for this alleged pattern. We know Trump knew about it as we know from Comey’s memos that Trump sidled up to him in February after Flynn was fired and told him to drop the Flynn investigation.
“The source also said Pence was not consulted about the decision to bring on Flynn as the National Security Adviser in November. The two men, according to the aide, “never” had a personal relationship and suggested the two may have never had a personal meeting during the transition.”
“You never saw him promoting Flynn,” the source asserted.
Never saw anything. Pretty impressive transition leader.
Asked about a letter from Rep. Elijah Cummings to Pence on November 18 that warned the transition team about Flynn’s work for Turkey, the source asserted: “I’m not sure we saw the letter.”
Whoa-you’re not sure you saw it?
So then you’re not sure if your own claims that Pence was out of the loop on apparently everything are actually wholly untrue. If you’re not sure if you saw Rep. Cummings memo how can you claim so categorically that Pence didn’t know about Flynn? If he saw that letter and from what you say it’s at best a tossup then he did know all about Flynn from the beginning.
Hopefully we’ll get to ask them these questions sometime-at a Congressional hearing in a Democratic House. Speaking of which, see my PS:
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
