There’s Hope for the Next Generation: Eighth Graders Walk Out on Paul Ryan
Couldn’t happen to a better Scrooge. I say scrooge advisedly-this is the guy who tells us he dreamed of cutting Medicaid while he was attending DC keggers as a 27 year old.
“Paul Ryan has been dreaming about cutting Medicaid for a long time—apparently ever since he was drinking at DC keg parties.”
“National Review editor Rich Lowry interviewed Ryan at a live event on Friday about the Republican plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. “We have a littler personal history that Paul may have forgotten,” Lowry told the audience at the start of the half-hour exchange. He recalled that in 1997, when he was selected to lead the magazine at the age of 29, his Washington, DC, housemates threw a kegger in his honor. Ryan attended, though the future House speaker “made a prudently early exit,” Lowry said. Ryan would have been about 27 at the time—he ran for office soon after, and was elected to his Wisconsin congressional seat the following year.”
It was kind of a tough week for Ryan’s dream. Yes, TryanCare-his and Trump’s awful healthcare plan-passed on a narrow party line vote in the House. But Mitch McConnell says flatly that while he’s going to try, he has no idea how he gets to 50 votes in the Senate.
Yes, Gianforte won in Montana, but only by refusing to speak of the ObamaCare bill at all during the campaign. Indeed, he went so far as to engage in aggravated assault of a reporter to avoid answering a question about the CBO score. We knew the GOP hated the CBO but geez.
Another Republican reportedly cried after seeing the CBO score. Yes, Ryan and Donald Trump have put together some healthcare bill there.
Indeed, TrumpCare is doing so badly, Ryan felt the need to put up fake news to defend it. He was roundly called out for it on Twitter.
Then we have the Treason Tapes that the Washington Post wrote about recently.
I guess maybe the eight graders that Ryan met with recently know some of this. They didn’t want a picture with him and walked out
“America Cheers After Group Of 8th Graders Walk Out On & Humiliate Paul Ryan.”
“Apparently, it’s not just adults who aren’t fans of House Speaker Paul Ryan. When he was faced with a group of 8th graders from New Jersey who were visiting the Capitol this week, Ryan learned that quite a few young Americans also don’t like him.”
“According to The Village Green, a local New Jersey news outlet, about half of the students in the group refused to take a photo with Ryan. A number of the students from South Orange Middle School who declined the photo had compelling reasons for not wanting to be a part of it.”
Yes-they don’t like his politics and don’t want to be seen as supporting him. They also see taking a picture with him as embracing Donald Trump. Smart kids.
“One of the students, Wendy Weeks, explained that she thought taking a picture with Ryan would signify that she agreed with his political views:
‘I think that taking the picture represents that you agree with the same political views and I don’t agree with his political views so I chose not to be in it.’
“Louisa Maynard-Parisi gave a similar reason for refusing the photo-op:
‘I didn’t want to be in [the picture] because he believes in most of what Trump believes in.’
“Matthew Malespina, another 8th grade student, said that he refused the picture specifically because of Ryan’s support for the American Health Care Act.”
‘I can’t take a picture with someone who supports a budget that would destroy public education and would leave 23 million people without healthcare.’
“Malespina’s mother, Elissa Malespina, told The Village Green that she was proud of her son for not wanting to be pictured alongside Ryan.”
‘I am proud of my son and all the other students who chose…respectfully not to participate in the photograph with Speaker Ryan. My son does not believe in the policies that Speaker Ryan believes and does not want to be associated in any way with him or his policies. It is his right as a citizen to do so and I commend him and his fellow students for doing so in a respectful way. Listen to the children they get it.’
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
