Even Beltway Media is Gingerly Starting to Admit the Effect of Russia on the Election
As this CNN piece that came out yesterday shows. To be sure, this piece still offers up plenty of canard and qualifiers. They can’t bring themselves to do the about face too quickly-they’re trying to save face.
But finally you have a CNN writer-Z. Byron Wolf-admitting that, Yeah. Maybe the result of this election was just a little bit tainted and tarnished. And considering that the margin was 77,000 votes in three swing states, maybe it even-are you ready for this?-effected or even changed the election.
At this point Wolf is at least ready to admit it had an effect. But could it have been an effect slight enough not to move 77,000 votes.
“It’s getting harder to say Russian meddling didn’t actually help lead to Trump’s victory and Clinton’s loss.”
This has, of course, been obviously all along for those not totally deluding themselves. But, welcome aboard Zorn, better late than never.
This is for the Beltway media, a major concession as the narrative until now has been Hillary Clinton has only herself to blame for running a bad uninspiring campaign where no one made her use a private email server.
To be sure, Zorn still offers up that particular canard-But no one made her use a private email server.
The thing is — and this is largely of her own doing for having the email server in the first place — it’s pretty clear that email is part of what brought Hillary Clinton down.
The exit polling is clear: 63% of voters said Clinton’s use of private email bothered them. That’s a big majority. Forty-five percent of voters said it bothered them “a lot.”
True. But then no one made Trey Gowdy use a private email server either. The difference is the media hasn’t hyped that as the biggest story in the world for the last 20 months as they had by the time the Comey letter hit.
Now I feel like I should say this very slowly as it seems to really confuse Beltway pundits but-No one told them to overhype it into the crime of the century either. I mean they’ve avoided hyping Gowdy’s use of a private email server-heck it might have been important context while Gowdy was holding a Select Committee on her damn emails.
No one made the media hype Mike Pence’s own private email system in Indiana to the Heavens either-and so, they didn’t. Even though it, unlike HRC”s server-got hacked.
It's a fairly open-and-shut case. But the media's election post-mortems have mostly ignored it because it implicates the media's judgement. pic.twitter.com/cBLifP9WLu

Indeed, there was a time when we talked about Russia, I’d warn that Russia is just half the apple-there is also Comeygate. But it’s now getting clear that Comeygate was part of Russia.
I had suspected this all along. But the notion that the FBI was somehow subverted by Russia seemed like an outlandish conspiracy theory-though Mensch was on the take early on that one too.
Now we know that the alleged underaged girl Weiner sexted with, lied.
But it always seemed to me that Comeygate was somehow related to Russia. And now we have clear proof-with regard to Comey press conference.
“New reporting Friday from CNN’s Dana Bash, Shimon Prokupecz and Gloria Borger that Comey knew the intelligence was fake but still he told Congress it drove his decision — he went around his bosses at the Justice Department to announce publicly there wasn’t evidence there to charge Clinton with the crime of mishandling classified information, but that she was reckless and careless with state secrets — makes it more difficult still.”
“Yes, the reason Comey gave for giving that press conference was he received an alleged DNC email from Russian hackers. So at the same time he was supposed to be investigating Russian hackers for hacking DNC emails, he was also using an alleged DNC email hacked by Russian hackers as a reason to give an indefensible press conference that damaged her campaign significantly.”
His defense? He knew it was a fake but he had to do it or the hackers would leak it.
Here’s an argument explaining how the Russians’ fake memo works its way to influencing American politics:
“The Washington Post report suggests it was the flawed memo with “faked” by Russians that led Comey to announce in July of 2016 that there was not enough evidence to bring charges against Clinton or her staffers for their treatment of classified information during her time as secretary of state.”
“The fake information was apparently within a Russian intelligence document obtained by the FBI. It was supposed to describe — and remember this is now believed to be disinformation — an email between then-DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the leader of a group funded by Democratic mega-donor George Soros in which she expressed an understanding that the Justice Department would slow-walk its investigation into Clinton’s email.”
“Repeating again, just for clarity, that there doesn’t appear to have ever been a Wasserman Schultz email.”
In light of this I’m looking very much forward to the release of the IG report on the email probe at the end of this year. I’d like to know very much if this was the only time the email probe was compromised by Russian active measures.
Anyway, the Beltway press is getting there slowly. Russian interference had an effect. At some point in the future maybe they can handle the truth: Russian interference compromised the election by changing the result.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
