Putin Defends Trump Leaving Paris Accord *and* Admits it May Hurt US Growth
Hmmm. Lower US growth-a feature not a bug?
Mic looks at the implications of Trump’s leaving the climate accord. Spoiler alert: it may actually strenthen the agreement though it diminishes US leadership and maybe hurts US growth
Interestingly, in Putin’s interview with Megyn Kelly he defends Trump’s leaving it but also notes that it may hurt US growth(!)
“Russian President Vladimir Putin today appeared to come to the defense of President Trump over his decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement.”
“Putin, speaking at an economic forum in Russia, said that although he thinks it would have been better for the U.S. to try to change the agreement rather than leave it, he isn’t rushing to condemn Trump for his decision.”
“Responding to a question from NBC’s Megyn Kelly on stage at the forum in St. Petersburg, Putin also downplayed the significance of the U.S. withdrawal from the accord given that the agreement is not binding.”
“He suggested that there may still be time to renegotiate the deal so that the U.S. will decide to remain.”
“It’s not even come into force yet. It should come into force in 2021. So we still have time, if we work constructively we still have time,” said the Russian president who then, switching to English, quoted a popular song, “Don’t worry, be happy.”
“Russia is a signatory of the Paris Agreement, and the Kremlin said this week it would remain in the climate accord.”
Putin said, “I wouldn’t start to condemn President Trump” over the decision, adding that perhaps Trump thought agreements by former President Barack Obama “hadn’t been totally thought through.”
Question: when has Putin ever defended a US President before?
But it makes sense. Putin knows full well that the ultimate power over Trump is to simply praise him. It literally hypnotizes the vain fascist charlatan.
Reports this week show that there is still a push to undo the sanctions Obama imposed for rigging our election.
It’s been a great two weeks for Putin and his flattery will get him everywhere with Herr Trump going forward.
One of the Steele Dossier’s claims is that Russia has Kompromat on Trump. Much of it has since been confirmed but the specific claim about the golden shower seemed outlandish. Whether or not there was anything in that allegation-and we don’t know either way at least based on public knowledge-it’s not hard to believe the Russians have plenty on Trump.
Boris Epshteyn is widely believed to be Source E-the WH official who had the damaging info on Trump. Epshteyn is Russian born and left very abruptly in late March after Devin Nunes’s leaking spree. Nunes said only one person in the WH had a FISA warrant against them. Many suspected that one person was Borsh Epshteyn.
In any case, it’s clearly not hard to manipulate Trump. Putin knows praise him, he’ll do anything you want. On the negative side, the new French President Macron’s handshake ‘bewildered’ Herr Trump so much he dropped out of the Paris Accord out of spite. That’ll show Macron. After all it’s the Paris Accord.
Take that France!
So our leadership role is diminished and it will actually be bad for growth. But Trump sure showed Macron.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
