New Lawsuits Against Trump by DC and Maryland Could Expose Tax Returns
Yes, we’re just at the beginning stages of the investigation into Russia collusion. But as far as articles of impeachment, we already have an embarrassment of riches.
As far as using his Office to benefit himself and his family business, Trump violates the constitution not every day or even every hour but constantly.
The good news, though, is both the DC and Maryland Attorney Generals are on the case.
“Donald Trump is already being investigated by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the FBI, the State of New York and too many House and Senate committees to list. His infractions involve everything from his illicit Russia ties to his legally questionable finances to obstruction of justice. But now he’s facing a battle on yet another front: the Attorneys General of Maryland and the District of Columbia are suing him personally – and they’re going for the jugular.”
“Donald Trump has spent his entire candidacy and his entire time in office falsely promising to eventually release his tax returns. He’s also spent his time in office brazenly trying to use the presidency to actively steer foreign and domestic business into his own hotel and resorts. It turns out Maryland and DC are now aiming to hit Trump where it hurts on both those fronts, according to the Washington Post (link). And in the process they’re attempting to expose his tax returns, which in turn could upend his business empire and his presidency.”
And via the Emoluments Clause, Trump is violating the Constitution constantly.
“It’s a violation of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution for Donald Trump to use his office for the purpose of accepting gifts from foreign government. By steering foreign government representatives toward staying at his own Washington DC hotel, he’s in blatant violation of the Emoluments Clause. The Republican majority in Congress has thus far refused to impeach and convict Trump for this crime. But because competing hotels in Maryland and DC are being victimized financially by Trump’s criminal behavior, those two Attorneys General have grounds to sue him for it.”
The GOP is not even making it any kind of priority.
“Moreover, they have grounds to get their hands on Donald Trump’s tax returns, for the purpose of sorting out his foreign financial ties, thus helping demonstrate motive. Trump’s taxes are likely a goldmine of evidence of decades of illegal activities. Just as various states have taken down Trump’s unconstitutional Muslim ban, this latest state level action may take down Trump entirely.”
Speaking of articles of impeachment, every tweet is a potentially impeachable offense. Trump’s preference to come out and make his own defense against Comey only increases his peril.
“Trump’s his own top defender against Comey criticism.”
