Hackers Successfully Altered Voter Data in 2016 Election
Despite all the blithe assurances-the GOP always beings hearings with the talking point that no vote totals were altered-as if that’s the only way to influence an election-we keep seeing more and more developing stories that thickens the plot yet again.
Now it turns out that hackers altered voter data.
“The hacking of state and local election databases in 2016 was more extensive than previously reported, including at least one successful attempt to alter voter information, and the theft of thousands of voter records that contain private information like partial Social Security numbers, current and former officials tell TIME.”
“In one case, investigators found there had been a manipulation of voter data in a county database but the alterations were discovered and rectified, two sources familiar with the matter tell TIME. Investigators have not identified whether the hackers in that case were Russian agents.”
That phrase more extensive than previously reported keeps recurring news stories.
Did any Trump associates get infrom from hacked databases? Congressional investigators are now interested in this question.
“The fact that private data was stolen from states is separately providing investigators a previously unreported line of inquiry in the probes into Russian attempts to influence the election. In Illinois, more than 90% of the nearly 90,000 records stolen by Russian state actors contained drivers license numbers, and a quarter contained the last four digits of voters’ Social Security numbers, according to Ken Menzel, the General Counsel of the State Board of Elections.”
“Congressional investigators are probing whether any of this stolen private information made its way to the Trump campaign, two sources familiar with the investigations tell TIME.”
“If any campaign, Trump or otherwise, used inappropriate data the questions are, How did they get it? From whom? And with what level of knowledge?” the former top Democratic staffer on the House Intelligence Committee, Michael Bahar, tells TIME. “That is a crux of the investigation.”
Uh-get me Roger Stone?
How did they get it? How about Guccifer 2.0. Guccifer 2.0
We know that Guccifer 2.0 hacked not just DNC emails but also voter data from the DCCC. This voter data was sent to GOP Florida operative Alan Nevins-who then showed the info to Roger Stone. Here’s what Nevins said upon receiving it:
More impressed after studying the voter-turnout models, Mr. Nevins told the hacker, “Basically if this was a war, this is the map to where all the troops are deployed.”
At another point, he told the hacker, “This is probably worth millions of dollars.”
“Hmmm,” Guccifer 2.0 responded. “ok u owe me a million :)”
Democrats, Mr. Nevins wrote, “spent millions probably to figure out who these people are that are conducive to their message and now it’s exposed for the other side.”
The map where all the troops are deployed.
Then there is the Trump campaign’s digital director, Brad Parcscale.
“The House Intelligence Committee plans to seek testimony this summer from Brad Parscale, the digital director of the Trump campaign, CNN reported last week. Hill investigators in February asked the White House and law enforcement agencies to ensure that all materials relating to contacts between the Trump administration, transition team and campaign had with the Russians had been preserved. Parscale did not return messages requesting comment for this story. Trump’s press secretary, Sean Spicer, referred questions regarding the investigations to Trump’s legal team, which did not respond to requests for comment.”
Good old Brad Parscale who had a poster up at Trump campaign headquarters which read: ‘Dear Hillary, I miss reading your classified emails.’
Recall that Roger Stone had boasted in an August CSPAN interview to having ‘communicated’ with Julian Assange to ask him about hacking into Hillary’s 30,000 emails on her server that she hadn’t turned over-as that was the law.
Further recall, that Trump himself on July 27, 2016 had the Last Press Conference-for him at least, during the 2016 campaign-‘Russia, are you listening?’
So perhaps Stone was just following up on Trump’s request with Assange and perhaps this was what Parscale was referencing in that campaign poster hanging on the wall.
Parscale will be testifying before Congress this Summer. Like Michael Flynn, ‘He definitely has a story to tell.’
But at this point there’s no way to reassure people that the results themselves weren’t effected as there hasn’t even been an aduit.
P.S. So the Gravis poll against Peter King NY2 and it has good news-almost too good to believe.
In my March poll I trailed King by 11 and thought that was very good news. Now Gravis has me up by 10? Still, the moment of truth is next week when Gravis writes up the press release.
I can use any help I can get at this point-volunteers or supporters who live in NY 2. Donations whatever your zip code. These days we can’t just support a local Dem we need a Dem Congress. Which is why I’ve donated few hundred to Jon Ossoff.
Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House-$5 or $10 can do so much.
If you feel that you can’t I, of course, understand-who is rich these days? But please do me one favor: ask yourself privately, mentally, if you really can’t spare $5 dollars. If you can honestly say you can’t, no worries.
We can have a Dem Congress, we must have a Dem Cogress, and we will.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
