Former Russian Spy & Hacker Who Attended Don Jr’s Russia Meeting Testified B4 Grand Jury
His name is not easy to say-or spell: Rinat Akhmetshin. Most of the news reports are referring to him as a lobbyist. Which is true but necessarily incomplete-he has worn many hats. He was once a Soviet spy-and arguably once a Russian spy, always a Russian spy.
He also was accused of being part of a world hacking conspiracy.
He also met with Dana Rohrbacher back in April because of course he did.
“On the night of April 11, 2017, Akhmetshin met with US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher in the lobby of The Westin Grand Berlin in Berlin, Germany. There was a discussion about a high profile money laundering case, along with related sanctionsagainst Russia. The two had meet previously in May 2016 in a meeting in Rohrabacher’s office.”
So Rinat-his first name is easier to spell-is wear’s many hats. And has now already testified before Mueller’s Grand Jury.
“A grand jury used by Special Counsel Robert Mueller has heard secret testimony from a Russian-American lobbyist who attended a June 2016 meeting with President Donald Trump’s eldest son, The Associated Press has learned.”
“The revelation is the clearest indication yet that Mueller and his team of investigators view the meeting, which came weeks after Trump had secured the Republican presidential nomination, as a relevant inquiry point in their broader probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.”
But, but, but-Rush, Hannity and Alex Jones said FAKE NEWS. Even Julian Assange said so. Mueller appears to be ignoring them!
“The Financial Times first reported Akhmetshin’s grand jury appearance. Reached by the AP, Akhmetshin declined comment. Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, also declined comment Wednesday night.”
“The confirmation of Akhmetshin’s grand jury testimony comes after he spoke at length about his involvement in the Trump Tower meeting in an interview with the AP last month.”
“Akhmetshin, a former Soviet military officer who served in a counterintelligence unit, is also a well-known Washington lobbyist. He has been representing Russian interests trying to undermine the story of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, who died in a Russian prison and is the namesake of a U.S. sanctions law.”
“Akhmetshin has been reported to have ties to Russian intelligence but he has denied that, calling the allegations a “smear campaign.”
It’s not a ‘smear campaign’-it may or may not be true, but it’s a reasonable surmise. Again-are you ever really a former Russian intel agent?
The Financial Times-who initially broke the story:
“He went into the court for hours,” said one of the people familiar with the matter. “It can’t be fun in the bull’s-eye.” Mr Akhmetshin had attracted attention on Capitol Hill even before it was disclosed that he attended last year’s Trump Tower meeting. The Senate judiciary committee, led by Chuck Grassley, is investigating Mr Akhmetshin’s US citizenship, his military background and whether he improperly lobbied for Russian interests. Friends and colleagues describe Mr Akhmetshin as someone for “hire” rather than a Russian spy, although they say they cannot be sure. Mr Akhmetshin described himself to the Financial Times as “a mercenary”, and denied being a Russian spy or working for the Kremlin. “I spend other people’s money here to achieve other people’s goals,” he said, adding that he works neither for nor against the Russian government.”
Does the Russian government-or the Trump campaign have a rule against using mercenaries?
