None Dare Call it Treason: Trump is Paying Russia Expenses From Campaign Funds
It’s always ironic to consider that despite how much Jeff Sessions hates pot the GOP is the Party of Treason P.O.T.
“It’s not enough that Donald Trump has been using the money fundraised for his nonexistent “2020 reelection campaign” to pay his son’s legal fees in the Russia scandal. Now it turns out the Republican National Committee itself is paying Trump’s own legal fees in the scandal. This is an incredible and unprecedented move, one which has absolutely no above-board explanation. I think I know the real reason for it.”
“At this point the RNC isn’t even trying to hide the fact that it’s paying the six figure tabs for Donald Trump’s Russia attorneys. In fact an RNC spokesperson is flat out admitting it to CNN reporter Jeremy Diamond (link). The most straightforward underhanded explanation for this would be that the Republican Party is trying to prop up Trump at least a bit longer, so it can continue to try to ram through its own legislation before inevitably having to participate in ousting him. But this runs a lot deeper.”
Bill Palmer argues it’s because of the GOP’s own complicity in helping Trump collude with Russia. And it’s true that they were at least passively complicit-a la Paul Ryan’s ‘keep it in the family’ jibe in June 2016.
And as Hillary rightly points out in What Happened? Mitch McConnell refused to cooperate with Obama even as Russia was in the middle of interfering in our election. So much for partisanship ending at the water’s edge.
Meanwhile, there’s all the campaign money the alleged billionaire Donald Trump is spending on Russia. A few weeks ago he was raising money off of Hurricane Irma.
But at least this is money well spent. (Irony)
Think a billionaire would pay his own legal expenses? Think again. Working-class Trump donors are footing the bill. https://t.co/mZfFuNtFNN

“Trump using campaign, RNC funds to pay”
“Russia probe legal bills: Reuters, citing sources”
“The U.S. Federal Election Commission allows the use of private campaign funds to pay legal bills arising from being a candidate or elected official.”
“Trump would be the first U.S. president in the modern campaign finance era to use such funds to cover the costs of responding to a criminal probe, said election law experts.”
John Dowd, Trump’s lead lawyer, declined to say how the president’s legal bills were being paid, adding: “That’s none of your business.”
John Dowd, the lawyer who flipped off a reporter after losing the biggest settlement against insider trading in history:
“Dowd defended hedge fund manager founder of the Galleon Group, Raj Rajaratnam in his insider trading case. Dowd created tension against the press by flipping off a photographer in May 2011 following Rajaratnam’s guilty conviction.[35″
Back to CNBC:
“U.S. President Donald Trump is using money donated to his re-election campaign and the
Republican National Committee to pay for his lawyers in the probe of alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.”
“Following Reuters exclusive report on Tuesday, CNN reported that the Republican National Committee paid in August more than $230,000 to cover some of Trump’s legal fees related to the probe.”
“RNC spokesperson Cassie Smedile confirmed to Reuters that Trump’s lead lawyer, John Dowd, received $100,000 from the RNC and that the RNC also paid $131,250 to the Constitutional Litigation and Advocacy Group, the law firm where Jay Sekulow, another of Trump’s lawyers, is a partner.”
The precedent here is not using campaign funds for legal matters but that the legal matters in question are criminal proceedings.
“While previous presidential campaigns have used these funds to pay for routine legal matters such as ballot access disputes and compliance requirements, Trump would be the first U.S. president in the modern campaign finance era to use such funds to cover the costs of responding to a criminal probe, said election law experts.”
None dare call it treason.
