Catch the (Democratic) Wave: Voters Reject Trumpism Without Trump
There’s just no two ways about this: what happened last night was just a major rebuke of Donald Trump. Here on Long Island Democrats even won in Hempstead. Democrats never win in Hempstead.
Then there’s Virginia which was the main focus of the night.
BREAKING: Democrats are IN THE LEAD to pick up the VA House of Delegates. They've picked up 12 GOP seats & currently lead in 6 (!!!) more. Whoa.

There had been all this handwringing about the Dems blowing it in Virginia, that Ralph Northam was letting it slip away.
“Despite all the hand-wringing, Ralph Northam didn’t blow it. And it seems that neither did Virginia Democratic candidates Justin Fairfax for lieutenant governor and Mark Herring for attorney general. Dems also won the New Jersey governor’s race in a landslide, and seem to be in position to pick up a bunch of seats in the Virginia House of Delegates.”
Yes, the Virginia House of Delegates. Coming in to the evening the GOP had a huge majority in the HOD.
But the unthinkable has happened and the HOD is very much up for grabs.

We won’t know for sure yet-it will take a little time to count all the votes.
“If I had to put a bet on it, I’d bet Democrats will ultimately win control of Virginia’s House of Delegates. They’ve captured 47 seats, and they’re ahead in four more races, pending absentee and provisional ballots. So far, absentee ballots have broken more Democratic than the Election Day vote, so that’s no comfort to Republicans. But the bottom line is, we probably won’t be able to call control tonight.”
But who thought there’s be ANY chance for the Dems to win the Virginia HOD? Nobody at the start of the night.
No matter how you want to size it last night shows a Democratic wave is building. Back to Yglesias at Vox:
“Ralph Northam’s win in the Virginia governor’s race shows the GOP is in big trouble.”
“A wave is building.
And this wave is all about Donald Trump and voters repudiation of him. There was a clear desire to repudiate him last night on the part of voters:
“So, why? Why did a race that most polling suggested was tightening — in Gillespie’s favor — wind up not being all that close? The obvious — and right — answer is Trump.”
T”he exit polls bear that out. Trump’s approval rating among Virginia voters was just 42% as compared to a disapproval rating of 58%. Even more importantly, of the 50% of Virginians who said that Trump was a major factor in their vote in the 2017, twice as many said they wanted to send a signal of opposition to the President as said they wanted to send a signal of support.”
It turns out Trumpism without Trump can’t escape: the Trump Taint.
“Ed Gillespie’s loss shows Donald Trump has made Trumpism toxic.”
“The Virginia governor’s race was a referendum on Trump, and he lost. Badly.”
“Ed Gillespie was the quintessential establishment Republican: senior adviser to President George W. Bush, chair of the Republican National Committee, founder of a bipartisan lobbying firm. He was also the GOP’s nominee for governor in Virginia, and he was losing.”
“Then he embraced Trumpism. He began running bizarre, fearmongering ads about Hispanic gangs and sanctuary cities. The polls narrowed, Democrats panicked, Trumpists began celebrating. Two days ago, Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former chief strategist, told the New York Times that Gillespie had “closed an enthusiasm gap by rallying around the Trump agenda … in Gillespie’s case, Trumpism without Trump can show the way forward.”
“This was the Democrats’ worst nightmare: that Trumpism might work better without Trump. That Gillespie could take Trump’s culture-war playbook — his attacks on immigrants and diversity and disorder — and, in severing it from Trump’s erratic personal behavior, do what Trump couldn’t: win blueish states like Virginia.”
“Except Gillespie lost. He lost by more than Trump did. He lost by more than other statewide Republicans running in Virginia. Trumpism without Trump didn’t just fail to win. It collapsed.”
So catch the Democratic wave my friends! And let’s board the Impeachment Train with Mike Sax NY2. All the way to Washington DC.
NOW is the time to buy your timeshare on the train.
P.S. I’m Mike Sax, I’m running for Congress in the NY 2nd District and I’m a Hillary Clinton Democrat.
Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
UPDATE: As you can see Me and Kev also got to meet Virginia’s new Governor.
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
And please donate so we can compete with Peter King’s $4 million. I know no lobbyists or millionaires like Peter King. Small donations are the engine of the Mike Sax NY2 campaign. Together we can do it. Because we must.
