Was Attack on Mike Sax 4 Congress’ Facebook Page Politically Motivated?
On early Sunday morning, November 5, evidently someone flagged my Mike Sax for Congress NY2 Facebook page. That is what a FB technician I’m speaking with believes is quite likely.
And Facebook is now investigating the possibility that this was a malicious flag meant to shut us down not for legitimate reasons but for political reasons.
Because if someone did this it’s tantamount to an attack on free speech. Someone didn’t like that I was talking to the people of Congressional District 2 about our Constitutional crisis in the Oval Office and my campaign to take Peter King’s place on the Intelligence Committee investigating Russia so we can have a real investigation and shut down my mic.
Yes, I can still post on my own FB page.
But I’m no longer able to boost posts that reach a larger circle of interested readers and visitors.
Ok, $64 million dollar question: why do I have a picture of Claude Taylor at the top of this post? Because I had just sent him the link to my FB page 1 minute before my ad account was disabled.
This is tantamount to talking to a huge auditorium of people and suddenly the mic is shut off. You can still keep talking but far fewer people are going to be able to hear you.
As this case of Trump Russia has unfolded I’ve become more convinced that I have the mind of an intelligence agent.
I’m not a big believer in very convenient coincidences.
Like with the DNC emails, the timing was too perfect: they’re released just before the first night of the DNC when the Dems are trying to mend fences and unite the party. So that on the morning they have to fire their DNC Chairwoman.
And for the timing with Claude Taylor to be this on the nose makes me very suspicious. Very convenient coincidences make me very suspicious.
Now I have spoken to my fellow candidate for NY2, Liuba Shirley.
She assures me she DID NOT deliberately poach Claude Taylor from me. I HAD been friends with Taylor on Twitter basically since last year’s fateful election. But recently without any explanation he had stopped given shoutouts for my campaign on Twitter and suddenly started promoting her.
That’s his right but I DID suspect that someone in Liuba’s campaign-probably not her herself; unlike me she tends to do things the political way; have someone else do your dirty work-got to Claude and said ‘Forget this Mike Sax Impeachment Train guy he’s a clown. Liuba’s got the organization, go with her.’
I can tell you as a matter of FACT that the day after my campaign was officially recognized by Newsday and DuWayne Gregory-who was the 2016 NY2 Congressional Dem candidate-I got a call from someone telling me Liuba’s so formidable has such a strong organization will have 400 volunteers out there and I should just get out now-in so many words.
This did NOT surprise me. While I am new to politics I’ve always been a student of the game and I get it: this was the classic JeB Bush style Shock and Awe move.
What DID surprise me just a little was WHO made this call. Someone who sort of lives in a glass house regarding telling other candidates they ought to not run for Congress as they don’t have a prayer.
Anyway. After Claude seemed to drop me for Liuba I had a few conversations with him via DM. He got indignant and claimed I was somehow being unreasonable in asking him if he’s still supporting the Mike Sax for Congress NY2 campaign.
But after this he did give me a shoutout on Twitter. Then on Sunday, November 5 he gave me another one. OF COURSE he listed Libua first as usual.
I had no problem with this. I figured so long as he promotes both as he said he would, I’m getting the publicity so take it where you can get it. Even though we’d been friends for awhile on Twitter and I’d been a big fan of his work on Russia.
I told him I’d been a big fan of his. But he didn’t seem to much care.
According to Libua she’d never spoken to him until he ‘suddenly just started RTing me and sending me donations.’
Ok. So anyway, he’d given me a shoutout and to me that was good enough, I’d be appreciative of that. Ok, evidently Claude and I were still friends I figured even if he likes Liuba who he just met so much better.
But then he got back to me and said:
“Mike-your opponent looks like a good candidate. She has a decent website and is accepting donations via ActBlue. I don’t see a website for your campaign and I see a GoFundMe that’s only raised a few hundred. Honestly-and I mean no disrespect-which of you is more likely to defeat Peter King?”
Here was my response to him:
I do have a website.”
And I sent him the link.
I DO-as you readers know as you’re reading it!
But Claude was unimpressed:
“I don’t know, Mike. I worked on campaigns for a long time. She’s doing everything right. Your website is blog musings-not a campaign website. Isn’t the point who can beat him? I don’t see you with the right apparatus to mount a credible campaign. I’m sorry.”
So he clearly looked at my website and dismissed it as ‘blog musings’ as if he doesn’t spend his whole day engaged in ‘Twitter musings’ when he’s not promoting his amateur photography business.
This is important as it shows us pattern.
He looked at my GoFundMe link and dismissed it as not having enough donations; I don’t get it-if you want me to have more donations why not donate?
If you feel sorry for me for not having more donations:
I actually have had a few since Claude Taylor, but I digress.
Then he looked at my website and dismissed it as ‘mere blog musings.’
So he WAS looking at the links I was sending to him-if only to dismiss them. Now I ALSO sent him my Facebook page link.
This he said nothing about. But 1 minute later I was on FB and for the first time in three months I was unable to promote my posts.
This is a serious hardship on this campaign. It takes me down from 7000 readers a day to about 200.
FB enables you to connect with folks with mutual interests and my mic was shutoff potentially by someone in Claude Taylor who donated to my opponent’s campaign and is telling others to donate.
He has every right to do that but IF he did flag my account that would be a serious ethical crime if not a legal one.
It represents a tremendous attack on my freedom of speech. This is not what we as Democrats want to be representing at a time like this.
NY2 District deserves a contest of ideas. Nobody’s mic should be shut off. Enough with these hamhanded attempts to clear the field. If my campaign is such a joke why all the need to shut off my mic?
I certainly am looking forward to that report from the Facebook technicians with no little interest.
P.S. I’m Mike Sax, I’m running for Congress in the NY 2nd District and I’m a Hillary Clinton Democrat.
Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
And please donate so we can compete with Peter King’s $4 million. I know no lobbyists or millionaires like Peter King. Small donations are the engine of the Mike Sax NY2 campaign. Together we can do it. Because we must.
