‘Coffee Boy’ Who Went to Russians for Oppo Spoke to Stephen Miller
George Papdopoulos is some ‘Coffee Boy’ you know?
“After the plea agreement was made public last month, Trump sought to distance himself from Papadopoulos, tweeting that “few people knew the young, low level volunteer named George, who has already proven to be a liar.”
“But the “low level volunteer” made several trips overseas throughout 2016, purportedly on behalf of the campaign, making appearances where he was introduced as a Trump adviser.”
“In April, he traveled to Israel to speak at the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, an appearance arranged by the former Israeli ambassador to Greece. In May, he met in Athens with the president of Greece. In September, he met with officials at the British Foreign Office in London.”
“During inaugural festivities, Papadopoulos met with advocates for Israeli settlements, telling them “We are looking forward to ushering in a new relationship with all of Israel.”
But just like with everything else with Trump Russia it’s always worse than it looks. Now we’re hearing that Coffee Boy spoke to Stephen Miller and other members of the Trump campaign.
The NYTimes broke this report. We also learn more about that Russian professor that Papdopoulos.
In January Papadopoulos had lied to the FBI. Never a smart thing to do. But he DOES have a good reason for that; he says he only did it out of loyalty for Donald Trump.
At that meeting he’d dismissed the Russian professor in question as ‘a nothing.’ The lie had been that he talked to him in January 2016 before joined the Trump campaign. In fact he met him in March when he was already in the campaign.
But that Russian professor wasn’t exactly a nothing.
“Fascinating piece here in the Times applying some Times level sleuthing to shed more light on those Papadopoulos court documents from last week. We get some idea of the backstory of Joseph Mifsud, apparently a failing and shambling academic career that was on its final skid when Russians showed up in 2014 with money and newfound respectability, an old story. Other gaps of the story are filled in. But the big one is Stephen Miller.”
So it’s not true that Mifsud was a ‘nothing.’ Ok, he sort of was until Russian intelligence recruited him.
Back to TalkingPointsMemo:
“According to the Times, Miller is the “senior policy advisor” referenced in the Papadopoulos court documents. He was the only unnamed player still unidentified. This means that Miller was one of the top Trump advisors Papadopoulos was keeping posted on his efforts to set up meetings between Russian officials and Trump campaign officials, perhaps even (preposterous as it may seem) a meeting between Trump and Putin himself.”
Indeed, the day before Papadopoulos learned about the hacked emails, he emailed Miller:
“The day before he learned about the hacked emails, Mr. Papadopoulos emailed Mr. Miller, then a senior policy adviser to the campaign, saying Mr. Trump had an “open invitation” from Mr. Putin to visit Russia. The day after, he wrote Mr. Miller that he had “some interesting messages coming in from Moscow about a trip when the time is right.”
As Josh Marshall points out, Miller remains to this day on of Trump’s most senior level advisers.
It is known that Miller was one advising Trump to fire Comey. But now that we know that he knew of Papapoulos’ conversations with the Russians this ‘advice’ on Miller’s part takes on a new meaning:
“In short, Miller’s hands are all over the Comey firing. Now that we know he was in the loop for the Russia contacts, we know that in seeking to fire Comey he was at least in part seeking to kill an investigation into himself.”
Finally, lest we forget Miller came to Trump via: Jeff Sessions. A lot of roads lead to or emerge from Jeff Sessions. It couldn’t happen to a nicer unreconstructed segregationist.

Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
