When Christie was Fired as Transition Chief Michael Flynn and Bannon Celebrated
The last few days the big story-one of the big stories; in the Trump Era there’s never just ONE big story-is that Mueller has enough to charge Michael Flynn and that he’s focusing on his work as a Turkish agent while on the Trump campaign and transition and later the Trump WH.
And the question has always begged: how exactly did Flynn pass his vetting during the transition? This is a question for Mike Pence who headed the transition. The Trump explanation never seemed very plausible-though most of the MSM has taken it at face value-that Flynn ‘Lied to poor Mike Pence.’
Now there’s new reporting about Chris Christie who headed the transition before Pence replaced him. It turns out Christie did not trust Flynn and was giving him a tough vetting. Then Christie was fired and this was a cause for celebration by both Flynn himself as well as: Steve Bannon.
Michael Flynn wasn’t even on the shortlist of potential national security advisers.
“New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the early transition chief for a newly elected Donald Trump, and his team had deep reservations about Flynn, fearing the retired three-star Army general who had been ousted from the Obama administration suffered from poor judgment and espoused far-out ideas on foreign policy.”
“Instead, their list for the NSA slot included marquee military leaders such as now-Secretary of Defense James Mattis; General Peter Pace, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Bush; and Admiral William McRaven, who oversaw the Osama bin Laden raid, according to two people familiar with the transition.”
“But when Christie was fired from his transition perch on Nov. 11 — replaced by soon-to-be Vice President Mike Pence — Flynn and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon celebrated by tossing binders full of potential personnel picks, carefully culled by Christie’s team, into trash bins with a sense of ceremonial glee.”
“They did this before an audience of other transition officials, according to the two people close to the transition and a campaign official — though another former transition official disputed the idea that the binders and picks were not considered by the Pence-led transition team.”
RIIIGHT. Pence’s team considered the picks seriously right after digging them from the garbage.
Ultimately it was Trump himself who made the decision to ditch Christie’s recommendation against hiring Flynn for national security adviser, according to two former transition officials, rewarding one of his most loyal campaign surrogates.
“Flynn’s appointment was the president-elect’s decision, and he did it on his own timing after a lot of time spent together during the campaign,” explained one former White House official.
“That fateful decision brought the simmering Russia scandal into the West Wing and set in motion a chain of events that ultimately led to the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating whether the president’s team had any involvement in Russian election meddling.”
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan there you go again!
“Flynn, who was fired in February after misleading Pence about his contacts with Russian officials before Trump’s inauguration, is under scrutiny from Mueller’s team. A flood of news reports have detailed the range of allegations against Flynn, from failing to disclose his Turkish lobbying work to reportedly engaging in a plot to kidnap a Muslim cleric and bring him back to Turkey, as well as his various Russia contacts during the transition.”
This presumption that Pence had been ‘lied to’ continues to be accepted uncritically.
There’s an old African American saying that says only the truth hurts. Mueller does seem to be getting a little close to comfort for Flynn and his friends.
“The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that during the transition period in January, former Donald Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was offered $15 million in exchange for helping the Turkish government kidnap a guy in Pennsylvania and drag him off to Turkey. This prompted Flynn, through his lawyers, to immediately refute the story. Here’s the question: why didn’t Flynn refute the kidnapping story the first time the Wall Street Journal reported it, all the way back in March?”
What’s changed is the revelation that Flynn was offered $15 million dollars in January 2017 that is to say the month that Trump moved into the Oval Office to kidnap the cleric staying in the Poconos for Turkish President Erdogan.
“There are a few different reasons why Michael Flynn may have chosen to ignore it when he was first accused of participating in a kidnapping plot, and then chosen to loudly deny it this time around. But the only detail that’s changed is the claim that Flynn was specifically offered payment in return for participating in the plot. It’s enough to make you wonder if Flynn might have already confessed the kidnapping plot to Mueller as part of some deal, and is now worried that the new bribery accusation could invalidate his deal.”

Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
