Trump’s Favorability at -15 as Americans Tire of Winning After 3 Weeks
His popularity on the latest Gallup poll is only at 40% with 55% now seeing him unfavorably.
To state the obvious, these are dreadful numbers for a Administration only 3 weeks old.
Some like Tom Nicholls claim that liberals are ‘hysterical’-yes, there are plenty of outrages but some stuff, liberals exaggerate on. Really? The fact that Trump is only POTUS because of Comey, that Russia rigged it for him and that his campaign may have worked with him-Senate is already investigating it-the fact that he violates emoluments clause every day-by itself grounds for impeachment-the disaster in Yemen; the disastrous Muslim ban including the fact that Custom border agents were ignoring a federal court’s order…
All of this is no big deal?
“This continual panic is short-circuiting any reasonable debate about the president’s policies by indulging Trump’s fiercest opponents in the belief that something could destroy his presidency before it has a chance to govern. Still furious over the outcome of the election, Trump’s critics seize on every move as if there is a Watergate moment to be found if only they look hard enough. But even Nixon didn’t fall to a sudden scandal: He was a deeply consequential president who governed his way to a reelection landslide before his eventual resignation.”
Well Nixon didn’t have this rap sheet I enumerated in February, 1969, His popularity wasn’t 40%. Trump is already where W was in 2005, post Katrina and post trying to privatize Social Security.
I agree Trump likely won’t be impeached if/until there’s a Dem House 2018. But you never know. If Trump’s popularity keeps falling, it might at some point change the calculus even for the GOPers even the House GOPers.
Right now, House GOPers like Tom McClintock and Jason Chaffetz are slandering protesters by claiming they’re carpetbaggers funded by George Soros-of course, not a shred of evidence has been offered for that.
In some ways this is the same trap the Dems fell into in 2009.
"These protestors are all Koch brothers paid astroturf rentacrowds. It means nothing." – Every Dem strategist and campaign, 2009-10.

I think part of it is the GOPers are shocked that these protests have happened in their red districts. So they attempt to dismiss them. Burying your head in the sand is never a great strategy.
And if Trump’s numbers-now at 40%-keep slipping, then at some point the calculus for even these red state GOPers might change. At the end of the day Congress critters value their own re-election above all. So long as they see their best chance of winning in staying with Trump they will. But this calculus could change.
They may feel they have no choice but to have a real investigation of Trump.
