The Senate Wants Christopher Steele to Testify
Steele is the ex British intel guy from M16 who wrote the famous Trump-Russia dossier.
“Christopher Steele, the ex-MI6 agent who compiled the salacious dossier on President Trump, could testify before the U.S. Senate about the new commander-in-chief’s apparent links to Russia, according to a report.”
“While Steele is unlikely to show, a group of Democrats — joined by some Republicans — have offered to set up initial meetings on neutral territory in order to plan for any eventual testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, friends of the ex-spy told the British Independent newspaper.”
He’s unlikely to show because he fears for his own life in a dossier that was initially dismissed; CNN confounded two things: something being unverified and being debunked. It was never debunked which was what made it news. The fact that all those intel agencies were never able to prove it false was what was shocking. But in the early going the reporting failed to reflect that.
“When the Steele dossier was published by Buzzfeed, with an entirely appropriate amount of caveats, other journalistic outlets rushed to pour cold water on it, and wrongly so.”
“Chief among these was CNN. Acting as if Buzzfeed had not offered caveats alongside the publication, CNN blasted the news site as though they had irresponsibly published ‘fake news’.
“In fact, the credibility of Chris Steele was sky-high in the intelligence community, and the heads of all three agencies had included his dossier as an addendum to the Russian hacking report they produced for the President (Obama, at the time; but Trump was also given a version of it).”
“One bit of journalistic malfeasance committed by CNN was that they rubbished the dossier’s claims on Michael Cohen without doing independent journalistic research of their own.”
Yes, Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen who tweeted he’d never been to Prague before but who in fact: has been to Prague before back in 2004. I know, just like Jeff Sessions he didn’t lie he just answered wrong.
Back to Louise Mensch:
“I took as my starting point the idea that the Steele dossier should be believed and would be for the most part correct; and that it was more likely to be right than wrong. The reason I took this attitude is that all three heads of US intelligence agencies had included Steele’s dossier as an adjunct to their report to the President.”
Her starting assumption was proven right-many of her assumptions have proven right including what she had been saying regarding Jeff Sessions-when it turned out the FBI was willing to pay Steele for some more info.
Steele now fears for his life and four Russian diplomats mentioned in his dossier have turned up dead in the last 60 days. Just another coincidence. This is a great time for coincidences.
P.S. If you enjoy my blog and my support of #TheResistance-I’m also considering a 2018 run against GOP Congressmen Peter King of the NY 2nd district-then please consider a donation.
I just paid for the first poll of Peter King and how his constituents feel about him being a rubber stamp for Herr Trump.
Basically I ask them: ‘Peter King supports Trump’s Muslim ban and mass immigration raids and Mike Sax opposes them. Based on this who are you more likely to support?’
‘Like Donald Trump and Paul Ryan, Peter King supports ending ACA and cutting Medicaid. Mike Sax doesn’t want to end ACA but strengthen it. Not cut Medicaid but expand it. Based on this who are you more likely to support?’
‘Peter King like the rest of the GOP leadership doesn’t want real hearings into Donald Trump’s coordination with Russia during the election. Mike Sax wants real hearings which must be public. Based on this who are you more likely to support?’
‘Peter King thinks that Donald Trump unlike Presidents the last 40 years doesn’t have to release his tax returns to the public. Mike Sax believes Congress must compel the IRS to release them if Trump won’t. Based on this, who are you more likely to support?’
A number of people expressed interest in my run. Some pointed out they don’t live in NY. True, though you can still donate if that’s the case! Even $5 goes a long way.
