GOP House Has a 44 Seat Majority and Trump Blames Dems for Failure?
Remember the Boehner Rule-no bill even gets to the floor without a majority of the majority to support it. And now the GOP can’t repeal Obamacare which they had passed 60 previous bills to do during the Obama years with a 44 seat majority?
But Trump complains no Democrat supported it. That’s chutzpah. But it’s also said, It underscores how pitiful the GOP really is.
“Trump blames Democrats for his health care debacle.”
“But a deeply unpopular bill met its demise because House Republicans didn’t support it.”
Republicans hold a House majority. They don’t need a single Democratic vote to advance a health care reform bill to the Senate. And they control the both the legislature and the executive branch for the first time since 1928.
Not just a majority, a 44 seat majority. Yet now they’re whining and blaming the Democrat?
“in a subsequent conversation with the New York Times, Trump argued that it was somehow Democrats’ fault while distancing himself from the health care bill he was personally championing just hours earlier.”
“Mr. Trump, in a telephone interview moments after the bill was pulled, blamed Democrats and predicted that they would seek a deal within a year after, he asserted, ‘Obamacare explodes’ because of higher premiums,” the Times reported. “The president said he did not fault Mr. Ryan and said that he was pleased to move past his first legislative fight. He maintained that he was merely going along with the House bill.”
“This is more or less an admission that the GOP is incapable of governing. That’s what it comes down to. They’re the party of opposition. They are never the party of governing.”
“As the prospect of a loss became more real on Friday, the frustrations of GOP lawmakers loyal to the leadership began to boil over. “I’ve been in this job eight years, and I’m wracking my brain to think of one thing our party has done that’s been something positive, that’s been something other than stopping something else from happening,” Representative Tom Rooney of Florida said in an interview. “We need to start having victories as a party. And if we can’t, then it’s hard to justify why we should be back here.”
Rooney had an honest assessment of his party. They were always about stopping Obama just because.
I think the markets overreacted to the failure of the Trumpcare earlier in the week. The market concern was right and wrong.
They were right in the sense that if the GOP can’t pass a bill ending Obamacare what can they do? Tax reform is another thing that sounds dandy in the abstract until you start getting into the details. For starters if it’s revenue neutral it means there will be winners and losers.
There’s a reason this hasn’t been done since Reagan in 1986. But remember, Reagan worked with Tip O’Neil.
The GOP starting with Newt Gingrich doesn’t believe in working with the other party. Yet they blame them for their own failures even with a 44 seat majority. Even with those numbers they can’t pass anything.
If they want the Dems help passing bills you actually have to offer them something.
But the part I think the market missed is what that Trump loving trader on Options Action Steve Grasso said last night. He pointed out that the market did fine after 2010, though Obama was a lame duck President. He’s right-as for as passing legislation Obama was lame duck, though he did do a lot of very good and important stuff at the executive level.
Trump now even with a GOP House and Senate is already lame duck just over 2 months in. But the market will be fine-until and if the economy slows down.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
