I Meet With NY-2 District Congressional Democrats Regarding My Peter King Poll
They got wind of my poll and wanted to meet with me.
So met with them today at the Bayshore library. It was an interesting meeting. Most interesting was meeting with Duwayne Gregory, King’s opponent from 2016.
It wasn’t clear if Gregory plans to run again. From best I can suss out he’s unsure, but seemingly interested in supporting someone else who has a shot. I base that on nothing specific he says but the subtext and also what a few other folks there told me.
Lluba who ran the meeting talked about how many calls they made to Peter King over the last month. As I argued in my initial poll analysis, you don’t win 13 straight elections by having no idea what you’re doing.
He has won a lot of races in districts which normally vote Democrat at the Presidential level. A large part has been running local races and not wearing his partisanship on his sleeve. But talk is cheap. When it comes to how he actually votes he votes with Trump over 91% of the time.
But I was pretty surprised when he told the Washington Post that the party doesn’t have to worry about him as he was all but certain to vote for that bad, very bad, awful, no good bill, ACHD.
That one’s going to leave a mark. What I don’t get is why would he’d say he’s a yes on such an unpopular bill. A lot of people would be hurt by it.
Did King not see the bill would fail anyway? So why would you put your name on it? Usually he keeps his views and record on healthcare very close to his vest. This seems like such an unforced error.
This is a bill that the last draft put before the CBO cost 24 million Americans their health insurance and kicked 14 million off of Medicare. It cuts $880 billion from Medicaid and even hurts a lot of the 155 million Americans who get their health insurance from their employer by cutting ‘essential benefits.’
And King put his name to that?
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
