Obstruction of Justice: Trump Sought to Block Sally Yates From Testifying
I mean for Devin Nunes, this just keeps getting more embarrassing. His behavior starting last Tuesday has just been absurd, to the extent that Lindsay Graham is now calling him ‘Inspector Clouseau.’
“House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes has taken his committee’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election “off track,” Sen. Lindsey Graham said Tuesday morning, likening the chairman’s performance to that of the hapless Inspector Clouseau from the “Pink Panther” movies.”
“If he’s not willing to the tell the Democrats and Republicans on the committee who he met with and what he was told, then I think he’s lost his ability to lead,” Graham said. “My belief is the House is off track and probably can’t get back on track.”
John McCain also has real concerns about Nunes’ ability to lead this probe:
“Sen. McCain: Nunes should ‘absolutely’ reveal his sources.”
As for Nunes’ explanations ‘I just dropped by the WH grounds. They didn’t even know I was there. If I wanted to sneak around I could have concealed it. I wasn’t sneaking around, the sun was out’ the more he talks the more delirious he sounds.
“House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes’ announcement last week that officials from the transition team of President Donald Trump had been inadvertently surveilled by the U.S. intelligence community came at the behest of the White House, Rep. Eric Swalwell said Tuesday morning.”
“But Swalwell (D-Calif.), also a member of the House Intelligence Committee, disputed the chairman’s argument Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “It’s not an internet cafe. You can’t just walk in and receive classified information,” Swalwell said of the White House, adding that when a member of Congress visits, “everyone in the building knows that you’re there in the building.”
Nunes’ bizarre behavior is first of al tantamount to obstruction of an ongoing investigation of the highest importance. So this is the stage of Watergate we’re at: obstruction of justice.
Louise Mensch has sources which believe Nunes’ source may be Trump lawyer Michael Ellis.
“Following our exclusive report that Devin Nunes leaked information about transition team member, White House staffer and named subject of a failed FISA court application, Boris Epshteyn, I can exclusively report that sources with links to Congress state that staffers working on the Russia investigations believe that lawyers connected to the White House are illegally sharing information with Nunes – and illegally pressing him to leak it.”
“While sources are not yet definite as to which lawyer or lawyers they suspect of repeatedly breaking the law on leaks and obstruction of justice, several have named Michael Ellis, of the White House General Counsel’s office for National Security, as one they suspect.”
“Mr. Ellis previous job was the General Counsel for the House Intelligence Committee, working for Mr. Nunes directly. Sources indicate that Nunes recommended Ellis for the White House national security post.”
Cleary someone in the Trump WH was very concerned over something they saw.
Meanwhile. Nunes keeps canceling hearings. He cancelled a public hearing today but also the private hearing that was allegedly the reason for canceling the public hearing.
And now we are beginning to see why. And it’s absolutely explosive.
Well, now we know why Nunes cancelled hearings scheduled for today in which Yates was to testify. https://t.co/fBNV2qdbjj

So this is to stop Sally Yates from testifying:
“The Trump administration sought to block former acting attorney general Sally Yates from testifying to Congress in the House investigation of links between Russian officials and Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, The Washington Post has learned, a position that is likely to further anger Democrats who have accused Republicans of trying to damage the inquiry.”
“According to letters The Post reviewed, the Justice Department notified Yates earlier this month that the administration considers a great deal of her possible testimony to be barred from discussion in a congressional hearing because the topics are covered by the presidential communication privilege.”
“In a March 23 letter to Acting Assistant Attorney General Samuel Ramer, Yates’s attorney David O’Neil described the government’s position. O’Neil, who declined to comment, noted in the letter that Yates is willing to testify, and that she will avoid discussing classified information and details that could compromise investigations. The correspondence was later shared with the Intelligence Committee.”
“The Department of Justice has advised that it believes there are further constraints on the testimony Ms. Yates may provide at the [Intelligence Committee] hearing. Generally, we understand that the department takes the position that all information Ms. Yates received or actions she took in her capacity as Deputy Attorney General and acting Attorney General are client confidences that she may not disclose absent written consent of the department,’’ the lawyer wrote.
“We believe that the department’s position in this regard is overbroad, incorrect, and inconsistent with the department’s historical approach to the congressional testimony of current and former officials,’’ the letter continues. “In particular, we believe that Ms. Yates should not be obligated to refuse to provide non-classified facts about the department’s notification to the White House of concerns about the conduct of a senior official. Requiring Ms. Yates to refuse to provide such information is particularly untenable given that multiple senior administration officials have publicly described the same events.’’
So this is the Watergate phase we’re already at: the obstruction of justice, executive privilege phase. And this is two months and eight days into the Trump Administration.
Devin Nunes himself is getting close to committing crimes in his own right to protect his buddy Donald Trump-and maybe himself; he was part of the Trump campaign and transition.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will
