Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) Predicts Trump Aides Will go to Jail
Just based on our public knowledge this seems like a decent prediction. I mean Carter Page particularly would seem to be in real danger. This is someone who according to the Steele Dossier was offered a bribe: a 19% stake in Rosnet if Trump would remove Russian sanctions.
This bribe was offered by a Russian Oligarch, Igor Sechin, who is a sanctioned individual. By the way: in November someone bought a 19.5% stake in Rosnet. The identity of the new stakeholder has been concealed.
But you add to this what we now know-that Carter Page was recruited by a Russian spy in 2013. By the way-this Russian spy later went to prison for not registering as a foreign agent.
In quite a coincidence, Michael Flynn, it has now been revealed, also failed to register as a foreign agent of Turkey during the Trump transition. A fact Trump either didn’t know-or more likely, IMO, didn’t care.
Then there is Paul Manafort’s shady dealings. But this assessment of mine is based on public knowledge. Joaquin Castro is on the House intelligence committee:
“Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, appeared on CNN on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing investigation of possible collusion between associates of President Donald Trump and Russia intended to influence the 2016 presidential election.”
Castro told host Wolf Blitzer that based on what he has seen, “my impression is, I wouldn’t be surprised, after all of this is said and done, that some people end up in jail.”
“As a member of the intelligence committee, Castro has seen more evidence associated with the issue than most members of Congress.”
This followup by Wolf Blitzer is kind of silly:
“Pressed by Blitzer as to whether he has seen “hard evidence of collusion” or could confirm the people in question advised Trump during the campaign or currently work for the administration, Castro said he couldn’t comment further, but reiterated his previous prediction. “As you can imagine, Wolf, I’ll have to comment on that later. But again… my impression is that people will probably be charged and I think people will probably go to jail,” the congressman said.
It’s as if Blitzer is trying to absolve Trump-if there isn’t ‘hard evidence of collusion’ now, then there’s nothing there. Uh, Wolf, that’s what the investigation is trying to find out.
There are at least some signs the House intelligence committee is recovering its footing after Devin Nunes highjacking it and running it into quicksand.
“Democrats on the House intelligence committee were briefed Tuesday on the contents of intelligence documents that White House staff provided to House intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, and could travel as soon as Tuesday to review the documents themselves.”
“Rep. Jim Himes, a Connecticut Democrat, told reporters they heard from committee staff about the documents, but he declined to get into the details of what they show. Nunes has weathered a storm of calls for him to recuse himself from the Russia investigation since it was discovered that two White House aides coordinated the release of the information to him.”
“Himes also said that the committee has agreed to call FBI Director James Comey and NSA Director Mike Rogers back before the committee to testify again, but has not yet agreed on a time.”
“Democratic Rep. Mike Quigley said on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” that he had also been briefed on the documents and suggested the White House was using them to distract and should consider declassifying them.”
“If the White House is so concerned about this, they can tomorrow declassify those documents,” Quigley said. “Clearly this is more about distracting.”
As Judd Legum said on Twitter, Susan Rice is the new Hillary’s emails. As Jennifer Rubin says, if anything all the smoke about ‘unmasking’ kind of underscores the huge scandal this WH is harboring under.
Why are they always being swept up in incidental collection with Russia?
The leaks were not from Rice but from those leaking about Rice.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will
