Classified Docs Contradict Nunes’ Unmasking Claims
No wonder Devin Nunes is now being investigated by the House Ethics Committee. He has a lot of xplaining to do. He may have revealed classified information-like about a FISA warrant sought against Boris Epshteyn.
One of the-many-curiosities about Nunes bad James Bond impersonation was if these documents somehow ‘vindicated’ Herr Trump, why Nunes wasn’t releasing them to the media and to his colleagues on the House intelligence committee. The answer: Nunes was full of it. There was no smoking gun:
“After a review of the same intelligence reports brought to light by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, both Republican and Democratic lawmakers and aides have so far found no evidence that Obama administration officials did anything unusual or illegal, multiple sources in both parties tell CNN.”
“Their private assessment contradicts President Donald Trump’s allegations that former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice broke the law by requesting the “unmasking” of US individuals’ identities. Trump had claimed the matter was a “massive story.”
Again, this might be why Nunes wouldn’t release his and Trump’s ‘smoking gun.’
“One congressional intelligence source described the requests made by Rice as “normal and appropriate” for officials who serve in that role to the president.”
“And another source said there’s “absolutely” no smoking gun in the reports, urging the White House to declassify them to make clear there was nothing alarming in the documents.”
This after Trump’s absurd comments:
Asked by the Times if he believed Rice’s actions were criminal Trump responded, “Do I think? Yes, I think.”
“Sebastian Gorka, a Trump foreign policy aide, cast Rice’s actions as worse than the Watergate scandal that felled President Richard Nixon in an interview with pro-Trump Fox News host Sean Hannity.”
“Losing 14 minutes of audiotape in comparison to this is a little spat in the sandbox in the kindergarten,” Gorka said.
To be sure, this was before Trump found a much better diversion-Wagging the Dog in Syria and suddenly declaring NATO not obsolete anymore.
But it’s certainly pretty rich for Gorka to make light of Watergate. Trump talks of Watergate as if he’s not Nixon.
You even have Roger Stone talking about Watergate. Stone was there for the first one. At 19 years old he delivered Don Segretti’s Canucks Letter to the Manchester Union Leader that destroyed Ed Muskie.
But then Roger Stone is actually outing himself:
Yes I believe I was spied on under the authority of a FISA warrant- Watergate x 10 ! https://t.co/Yk46IMUvke
— Roger Stone (@RogerJStoneJr) April 12, 2017
It is Watergate*10 but Roger Stone is on Team Nixon. But imagine someone who actually thinks declaring themselves under a FISA warrant is exculpatory.
He knows this yet claims to have heard nothing from the FBI. He offers no reason to believe he’s under FISA except his own intuition. Perhaps because he knows based on his own actions he would be?
In any case, Stone can tell as many tall tales as the best of them:
“He has alleged he was poisoned in December by the “deep state” — a conspiratorial term adopted by Trump allies to refer to rogue intelligence operatives allegedly seeking to undermine Trump’s presidency — to prevent him from debunking claims that Russia deployed hackers to boost Trump. And he suggested that a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle in which he claimed to be a passenger could have been linked to the hacking scandal.”
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will
