No, Trump isn’t Calling China a Currency Manipulator Anymore but is Still Threatening Nuclear War
The punditocracy is so impressed he’s not calling China a currency manipulator anymore. He’s learning they coo. Ok, so he is still threatening nuclear war with North Korea-but nobody’s perfect.
It was stupid that Trump every said they are a currency manipulator. When he said this repeatedly during the campaign he was either lying or totally ignorant. As Lawrence O’Donnell said last night, Trump’s new position is ‘China is stealing all our jobs but that’s ok because they’re going to help us with North Korea’s nuclear weapons.’
So Americans lose jobs in exchange for getting Kim Jong-un’s nuclear weapons, allegedly. The media take on Trump is now: ‘I thought he was a sociopathic madman and then he threatened nuclear war with North Korea and now I’m reassured.’
Then there are the Berners for Trump, like Glenn Ford. He thinks Trump has been coopted by the War Party. I wish he was kidding:
“Now that the not-as-warlike-as-Obama-and-Clinton Donald Trump is dead, let’s do an autopsy. How did Trump, the most virulently white supremacist candidate of the White Man’s Party, emerge as the least aggressively warlike of the presidential contenders?”
As if Trump wasn’t always a charter member of the War Party. As if he was ever ‘not as warlike as Obama and Clinton.’ This was never the case. Which should have been obvious.
Ford seems to only have realized this now after the Syria strike. But in truth, since Trump has been in, civilian casualties at the hands of US military forces is up by 300% since Trump came in. Trump was never less warlike than Obama and Clinton. He ran on being more warlike and so has he governed.
Michael Anton-the ‘intellectual source code of Trumpism.’
“A lot of this comes down to people misinterpreting the president’s campaign rhetoric. He never campaigned as someone who would not use military power in any circumstance—U.S. military power. In fact, he said quite the opposite.
“He made it plain that he was willing to use U.S. military power in instances when he thought it was in the national interest. And this is an instance in which he determined it was in the national interest,” Anton says. “So, the people who think that this was some, either a pleasant, or a disastrous, surprise—I leave pleasant or disastrous to their own interpretation, but surprise—I have to say, is maybe a matter of fact, and it didn’t surprise me. So, I don’t know why it surprised so many others.”
I honestly don’t know either. You’d have to ask Glenn Ford that. Ford of the Black Agenda Report decided that someone who he agrees is s white supremacist would have been better for black people for Hillary Clinton because allegedly, Hillary was going to lead to war in Syria.
Black folks are better off with a white supremacist in the WH-and the DOJ-to avoid war in Syria. Looks like great calculus now.
Back to Ford:
“There is only one possible bit of solace in these circumstances: If Hillary had been elected, we might all be dead by now.”
Yes, he wrote this about a day before Trump started threatening nuclear war in North Korea. Whatever Hillary would have done, she would not be saying ‘Enough strategic patience with a nuclear North Korea.’
It’s great that Trump is not calling China a currency manipulator anymore. But when does he stop having an itchy finger on nuclear war?
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
