How Does Glenn Greenwald Defend Julian Assange After Macron Leaks?
There are two issues with Wikileaks:
1. Selectivity in what is leaked
2. The authenticity of what is leaked.
Hithero, the defense of Assange for Glenn Greenwald and friends revolves around 2: that what Assange leaks is 100% authentic. No one can show a case of anything he leaks being a forgery.
This handwaves away the question of selectively. Like why did Wikileaks only leak Democratic emails and Hilary emails? Assange has attempted to claim that this was just Trump’s good luck that the only docs sent to Assange during the 2016 election happened to be damaging to Hillary and the Democrats.
“Assange said that if WikiLeaks had obtained a cache of RNC emails, it would have published those as well. “Just imagine if WikiLeaks had obtained information that it knew was true about the Democratic party and corruption of the primary process, and it decided that it was not going to publish that information, but suppress it — it would be completely unconscionable,” he said. “We specialize in really big scoops. You can’t go, ‘Oh, we have this massive scoop about corruption in the DNC. Now we need to balance this with a massive scoop about corruption in the RNC.’ These things come along once every few years.”
So it’s just dumb luck that no one sent Wikileaks any RNC stuff right? Assange is just a neutral, nonpartisan transparency activist who leaks whatever he is sent.
Except he’s said many things that shows he is a partisan. He is on the Right.
“In the wake of the WikiLeaks frenzy, Assange often tried to clarify where he stood politically. His simultaneous embrace of leftist icons such as Noam Chomsky and right-wing libertarians seemed to indicate that he was open to ideas from either end of the political spectrum, so long as they were directed against authoritarianism. Finally, in 2013, Assange proclaimed, “The only hope as far as electoral politics presently … is the libertarian section of the Republican Party.”
So this makes it clear that he’s pro GOP. This was in 2013. In 2016, the day of a primary between Hillary and Bernie Assange published a piece declaring ‘a vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote for endless, stupid war. She cannot be President.’
On any day of the week if you read Assange’s twitter feed, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was Breitbart’s Twitter feed.
Or at least was. I wrote about all his anti Hillary tweets-polls of who thinks she’s the one who belongs in jail, tweets claiming Podesta is a pedophile, etc.
But now I notice he seems to have deleted all these anti Hillary tweets. I actually tweeted to him at one point that he sure didn’t seem to worried about Trump saying he should be arrested as he was still posting anti Hillary pro Trump material. He actually liked my tweet.
Did my one tweet convince him to take it all down? Perhaps that’s wishful thinking on my part. But clearly he has taken it down.
You can see in my link above that all the tweets from Assange in that piece are now stillborn.
So despite what Assange claims, he’s anything but impartial. His actions, past statements, past tweets all point in the same direction: he wanted Hillary Clinton to lose that election or damage her as much as possible if she won.
So clearly the reason he didn’t leak on the RNC was not because he just didn’t have the docs, but this was not in his interest. He told us in 2013 he wanted the GOP to win.
Beyond that Assange has often leaked the emails of vulnerable people and private people, like when he leaked the emails of every woman in Turkey for his buddy Erdogan.
Greenwald has-very mildly-opined that Assange should do better with ‘curation.’ But that’s about it. He hasn’t asked if there is something more sinister at work in Assange’s refusal to do curation. Greenwald handwaves away the fact that Assange clearly has a political agenda in what he chooses to leak and what he chooses not to leak.
Greenwald just sticks to point 2: Assange never leaks forgeries. Everything he leaks is authentic. If that was true in the past it’s not true now with the new Macron Leaks just before today’s French election.

In other words, they leaked first and authenticated after. No longer can Assange claim to only leak authentic documents.

Yes. So he’s always been entirely selective in what he chooses to leak but here he’s stooped to leaking forgeries.
Despite this, Macron should win. But Assange and friends are hoping to weaken him and weaken French democracy while he’s in office.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.

Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
