Trump Fires Comey for-Stealing the Election for Trump?!
Yes, this is true through the looking glass time. Donald Trump fires the guy who won the election for himself.
If anyone in the @WhiteHouse was feeling good about whatever loyalty they shared with Trump, he just fired the guy who won him the election.

Just like Nixon double crossed Ann Chennault and Diem in 1968 after they killed LBJ’s peace talks-thereby guaranteeing the election for Nixon. Good point by Smith. Everyone who carried water for Nixon ended up holding the bag for him.
But you almost have to give it to Trump and his GOP apologists. Including those conservatives who pretend not to be Trump apologists. Just for this level of gaslighting.
I see that conservative twitter has shifted into full anti-anti-Trump mode.

Like check out John Podhoretz who claims not to be pro Trump-as does his colleague at Commentary, Noah Rothman.
“The sudden dismissal of FBI director James Comey has suddenly transformed the man blamed by many Democrats for Hillary Clinton’s defeat into the liberal Twittersphere’s Thomas à Becket and Donald Trump into Henry II, ridding himself in vile fashion of a meddlesome priest. Such is the nature of whiplash politics, when a bad guy becomes a good guy simply by virtue of the utility he serves in whatever argument you wish to make.”
He’s accusing Democrats of whiplash but it’s the whiplash of and his Republican friends which is really breathtaking. Just yesterday afternoon, Kellyann Conway was mocking the fact that Democrats aren’t over the election yet. How do you get over it when we just have the so called POTUS firing the man investigating whether or not this so called Prez did or didn’t collude with Russian interference in the election?
How do you handwave that away? Then there is the FBI’s own interference under Comey. But Conway-and other Republicans-and much of the media a la Glenn Thrush was mocking the Comey Effect as well.
Until now. Suddenly you have Trumpsters-and some GOP Senators who now believe in the Comey Effect and are just outraged.
“I have no idea why Trump fired Comey, and neither does anyone else. Trump’s firing letter says (with an unfortunate split infinitive) that Comey is “not able to effectively lead the bureau.” But Comey’s effectiveness is not in question, to be honest, and the contention of the Becket Bunch that Trump might be working to impede the FBI’s examination of Russian meddling cannot be dismissed.”
C’mon. If you don’t know why Comey was fired then you’re willful ignorance is stunning. He was investigating whether Trump colluded with Russian interference in our election. As Sean Spicer would add Period!
“Comey’s judgment, however, should have been and should be questioned—and should have been found wanting by any chief executive serving or elected after his dreadful conduct during the 2016 election.”
“What Comey did on July 5 of last year in announcing his decision not to recommend charges against Hillary Clinton in the email investigation was a travesty. If, as he and everyone else has said, it was the unanimous decision of those looking at all of the evidence not to seek an indictment, it was a misuse of his power and authority to take to a podium and criticize her for her behavior. Indeed, his speech was so savagely negative, it sure sounded like he was going to announce an indictment referral up until the moment he declared he would not do so. That was not right, it was not just, and it was not proper.”
“He cleared her by casting a giant shadow over her campaign. This was prosecutorial indiscretion, and in my view, Barack Obama should have fired him right then and there.”
So who’s being the hypocrite-we Dems who have criticized Comey all along or Trump apologists like Podhoretz-though some like Podhoretz pretend to be critical of Trump-who have mocked the Democrats obsession with Comey for months-until Trump fired him for allegedly winning the election for-Trump?
Those who have followed my take will see I never said Comey should be fired for the time being anyway. I’d argued that his conduct raises very serious questions but what I called for were Comey hearings. There already is a DOJ IG probe of Comey and his handling of the email probe. But I believed Congress also needed open hearings into the same.
I was not naive enough to have much hope that would have started under the GOP Congress-but argued that if the Dems take it then they should start this in early 2019.
I wrote this on April 2, but if you’ve followed me this has been my line all along. I did-it’s true-step up my demands for this post that NYTs piece that provided us with many new facts about just how askew Comey’s handling of Emailgate really was.
But I never called for Comey to be fired-at least before we’d completed a very comprehensive and in depth public probe of him and the entire handling of the email probe-both him but also his agency.
It’s possible when we were done, at the tail end of it firing could have been one byproduct. But that was never the main thing. The main thing was figuring out what happened-and then we could decide on punishments and discipline. It’s true Comey’s public reputations may well have been radioactive by the time we Dems were done-I’ve told you I plan to be in that Dem House. Yes, I’m running against Peter King. Please consider a donation.
As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
But it’s one thing if Congress after a comprehensive investigation into his and his agency’s actions-he would be far from the only FBI agent we would need to investigate-decided that maybe Comey should lose his job. Even that only after giving Comey every opportunity to explain his actions and try to justify them.
Quite another for Trump to do this to shutdown the probe into whether or not he colluded with Russian interference.
No one with a room temperature IQ believes that Trump fired Comey for stealing the election for him. Though the NY Times pretends otherwise in a new headline.

If anyone seriously doubts this just check the record.
So Trump fired Comey, citing his handling of the Clinton case.
