With Comey Firing, Trump Has Crossed the Third Rail Of US Politics
This is what happens when you add Trump’s splendid arrogance together with his splendid ignorance.
It seems impossible to believe and some have questioned it-as it’s so hard to believe-but Trump apparently didn’t realize how big a deal this would be. Really.
And you know-for once I believe him. My rule is you never give Trump the benefit of the doubt. As Maddow says, you’re always better off watching Trump WH with the sound down-ignore his comments and tweets, etc. Even more from Spicer and Huckabee Sanders.
But the one thing I believe is when he suggests surprise and splendid ignorance at the repercussions of his own actions. That never surprises me.
After he fired Comey, even the Nixon Library got in the act of trolling Trump.

Very true. He fired the Watergate Special Prosecutor. Old Tricky Dick wasn’t that crazy. Indeed, that’s how J. Edgar Hoover lasted 45 years: no President dared to fire him with all the dirty stuff he had on them.
No way would Nixon fire Hoover-though he was not happy with him the last couple years.
And there has always been in American politics a taboo against firing the FBI Director. Clinton did it but it was regarding ethics violations, not because he was being investigated.
That is the third rail of US politics: the POTUS never fires someone investigating them, least of all the FBI Director.
But Trump doesn’t care about norms, rules, much less factual reality. So, of course, he fired Comey in the most disrespectful way imaginable to show off his own strength.
But this opened the floodgates. Now we’re learning about all kinds of things-like Comey had increased his updates on Russia from weekly to daily and that he had seen credible evidence of possible collusion.
Trump hates leaks? He’s about to drown in leaks.
I can independently confirm that the shit has in fact now reached multiple parts of surrounding wall structures. https://t.co/nN31zza65c

The Palmer Report:
“As I’ve stated elsewhere, my personal expectation for months has been that Donald Trump could probably get away with just about anything but firing FBI Director James Comey. When that happened yesterday, my first reaction was that Trump is toast, because “Everything will leak now” (link). As it turns out I’m not the only one who thinks this is backfiring on Trump in real time. Some national security experts and some political insiders are expecting it all to hit the fan within days.”
And yet, Trump didn’t realize this. He honestly thought Democrats would celebrate it as they were pissed off at Comey-the Comey letter, the Comey presser, et. al.
This is how bad his judgement is. He didn’t get that he just crossed the third rail of American politics.
Now the man who hates leaks just opened the floodgates. That’s what declaring war on the FBI does.
“Political pundit Xeni Jardin tweeted the following this evening: “I’d lay money on extremely dark, damning Trump content hitting sunlight soon. We all know it exists. And it’s far worse than we can imagine” (link). NBC News intel expert Malcolm Nance replied to Jardin in agreement, stating that “My guess is it will originate in Europe & be irrefutable. Standby” (link).”
“John Schindler, who has had a consistent history of accurate inside sourcing on the Trump-Russia saga, tweeted “I’ve received a briefing from a senior intel official who’s worked #KremlinGate from the beginning” (link), then adding “The Lizard is coming. Like I promised. Tomorrow.” Louise Mensch, whose inside sources have been proven correct about FISA warrants and other Trump-Russia matters, says that the first arrests will come “soon, possibly tomorrow” (link). Claude Taylor, who first broke the news of the now-confirmed Trump-Russia grand juries, says this is all coming because “Comey was ready” for his inevitable firing and already had things in place (link).”
“As always, it’s up to each of you to judge the assertions of each of the above experts and insiders based on their track records of being correct and having solid sources. But when you put it all together, it uniformly paints a picture of swift and massive blowback coming on Donald Trump in response to Comey’s firing.”
In other news: Preet Bharara is getting into the act and trolling Trump.
As a matter of math, infinitely more evidence Comey fired for Russia investigation (some) than there is evidence Trump was wiretapped (zero) https://t.co/Fsx9uiAcjA

P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
