Emmanuel Macron Explains the Handshake: I Love This Guy
Seriously-he knows how to deal with Donald Trump: not give him an inch.
“Macron says long Trump handshake ‘not innocent’
“Holding onto U.S. president’s hand showed he won’t make even small concessions, French leader explains.”
There is no better way for him to hold onto and build popularity-in France or internationally-than standing up to Donald Trump which is what the handshake was about.
“Macron makes it clear that his refusal to let Trump shake him around like a ‘rag doll’ was strategic.”
“French President Emmanuel Macron said his extended handshake with Donald Trump before a NATO summit was “not innocent” and intended to show he did not make even small concessions.”
“In an interview with the Journal du Dimanche published on Sunday, the French leader said his interaction with the American head of state was “a moment of truth.”
“My handshake with him was not innocent,” Macron said. “We need to show that we won’t make small concessions, even symbolic ones, while not overhyping things either.”
Be still my beating heart, Sir! You have my vote-if we were in the same country.
Here he speaks of ‘Edrogan, Putin and Donald Trump.’
“In the interview, Macron went on to compare Trump’s attitude to power with that of Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
“Donald Trump, the Turkish president or the Russian president believe in the logic of the trial of strength, which doesn’t bother me. I don’t believe in the diplomacy of public invective, but in my bilateral dialogues, I don’t let anything pass, that is how we are respected,” he said.
This is very revealing and I think it shows that Macron will have staying power in France. Here is a little secret: voters hate bullies but they don’t respect so called leaders who don’t stand up to bullies.
With all the comparisons to Obama, I’m beginning to believe it now.
I am more convinced than ever that Trump’s win was a big net loss for Right wing populism internationally. They haven’t won one since Trump was elected. Rick Wilson likes to say ‘Everything Trump touches dies’-and that includes ideas and political causes he embraces.
Building a wall has taken a hit since he won and now that he’s trying to destroy ObamaCare, it’s more popular than ever.
Another thing we know about Trump besides his fake shows of strength-Macron showing us what true strength looks like-is he is constantly revising history in preposterous-Hillary was the real birther and I stopped it, I fired Comey because he rigged the election for me, etc.
He falsely claimed Macron was ‘his guy’ though he had all but endorsed Mary LePen. Interestingly as the election went on she herself didn’t want to talk too much about Donald Trump either.
Now another feet of outrageous rewriting of history he is concerned that Brexit will cost American jobs. Uh-you basically gave a ticker tape parade for yourself after Brexit won.
“On Brexit, Trump expressed concern that jobs in the U.S. would be lost because of Brexit, according to an EU official.”
“According to one high-level banking official in London, the U.S. president “was probably referring to London-based American investment banks cutting staff and enacting relocation plans as a consequence of Brexit.”
As for the Brits-what were they thinking? Here’s what I truly don’t understand: why is it seen as somehow cheating the voters to allow these same voters a redo on such an important, consequential kind of foundational question?
I mean, arguably such a huge change should require a little more than just a bare majority of 52% in a one time referendum. Or maybe it should require 60%.
The night after Brexit actually passed, Google searches in Britain on Brexit exploded. What would be wrong with giving them a second chance to vote on it to make sure this is still what they want to do?
Why is that seen as cheating? Again, if Brexit is the will of the people then a second vote ought to show the same thing. Yet somehow if the feeling seems to be that if there is a second vote and this time Brexit fails this is somehow cheating the voters-even though it would be their vote.
Meanwhile, France is hailing Macron’s victory in making their case to move financial activity from London to Paris.
“Emmanuel Macron’s election victory has given new impetus to France’s efforts to woo financial activity from London after Brexit, as officials pursue talks with at least 20 large companies to lure them to Paris. US banks including Bank of America, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley are among the groups being urged to choose Paris over rival European financial centres, according to people briefed about the discussions. BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, which employs more than 2,000 people in London, is also in talks with officials, who claim Mr Macron’s presidential victory is a “game-changer”. JPMorgan Chase is also among the companies being targeted, even though the bank said this month it had already chosen Dublin, Frankfurt and Luxembourg to be its post-Brexit “anchors” in Europe.”
The words ‘freedom fries’ is now taking on a whole new meaning.
While I like Macron a lot and he has the right attitude, it’s true that in the long term the EU needs to understand how close they came to disaster and see it as a cautionary tale.
“Emmanuel Macron and the battle for the eurozone.”
Krugman warned the EU after Macron’s win as well. If the euro system is not improved on the next Le Pen can win.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
