Trump Needs to be Read His Miranda Rights Every Time He Tweets
He really should be very careful what he writes on Twitter going forward. And if you noticed, his staff did manage to keep him off Twitter during his international trip.
This was no accident. With his firing of Comey, his threatening Comey on Twitter with the prospect of ‘tapes’ and the appointment of a Special Counsel-Trump ought to be read his Miranda Rights every time he wants to tweet something.
Anything you tweet, can and will be used against you in a court of law.
It’s something his legal team understands. All he needs to do is one time tweet something that suggests some sort of menace towards Mueller and it’s over. It becomes the basis of impeachment.
Every tweet he sends out has the potential to be another article of impeachment.
“President Donald Trump is actively discussing major changes in the White House, including having lawyers vet his tweets and shaking up his top staff, as he grapples with the fallout from probes into his campaign’s dealings with Russia, according to several senior administration officials and outside advisers.”
“One major change under consideration would see the president’s social media posts vetted by a team of lawyers, who would decide if any needed to be adjusted or curtailed. The idea, said one of Mr. Trump’s advisers, is to create a system so that tweets “don’t go from the president’s mind out to the universe.”
“Some of Mr. Trump’s tweets—from hinting that he may have taped conversations with Mr. Comey to suggesting without any evidence that former President Barack Obama wire-tapped Trump Tower—have opened him to criticism and at times confounded his communications team.”
Trump aides have long attempted to rein in his tweeting, and some saw any type of legal vetting as difficult to implement. “I would be shocked if he would agree to that,” said Barry Bennett, a former Trump campaign aide.
He certainly won’t like it but the trouble is that each tweet now is more than just ‘offensive’ or ‘Trump being Trump’ but potentially a brand new article of impeachment.
In any case the staff seemed to have won during the trip as he had no inflammatory tweets. He was back on Twitter this morning-early.
“President Donald Trump on Sunday morning accused news outlets of fabricating stories and making up sources.”
In a series of tweets, the president said he believed the leaks coming from his administration are actually “fabricated lies.”
“It is my opinion that many of the leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media,” he tweeted at 8:33 a.m.
He went on to say that the anonymous sources used in articles do not exist.
“Whenever you see the words ‘sources say’ in the fake news media, and they don’t mention names …. it is very possible that those sources don’t exsist but are made up by fake news writers. #FakeNews is the enemy,” he continued. Several minutes later he rewrote one of the tweets to fix the spelling of “exist.”
“Trump has been plagued with a series of leaks coming from sources within the White House since being inaugurated as president. This past week, Trump made his first overseas trip — a stretch of time in which he did minimal tweeting.”
As the Bipartisan Report notes:
“Unnamed sources have often been used for information in reporting that is extremely sensitive and sometimes dangerous. An unnamed source nicknamed “Deep Throat” is how Nixon was brought down, and his true identity wasn’t revealed until the time of his death.”
Sure-anonymous sources are a staple for uncovering abuse of power and wrongdoing.
“Several Russians are dead now that news of Russia’s attempts to influence elections across the world have been made public. Is it any wonder sources wish to remain anonymous?”
“Since turnabout is fair play, perhaps Trump needs a reminder about his “extremely credible (and unnamed) source” who told him that President Barack Obama’s birth certificate was fake. Perhaps Trump uses “unnamed sources” when he knows for sure he’s lying.”
“Legitimate news outlets like The Washington Post and The New York Times, however, actually vet their sources. They clearly have Trump running scared.”
The GOP was fine with leaks when it was the Hillary email probe.
Meanwhile, everyone who works for Trump can panic every time he’s on Twitter. After all, this is now more than an annoyance; every tweet now is potentially a confession or commission of a crime.
Speaking of unhinged Twitter rants, Donald Trump Jr. is a chip off the old block:
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
