Comey to Sessions in March: Don’t Leave me Alone With Trump
It’s hard to believe but Trump is not happy with his unreconstructed segregationist buddy at the DOJ. Many of us aren’t, but Trump’s reasons are different. Not because he’s an unreconstructed segregationiist on a holy junta against pot use-he once ‘joked’ that the only problem he has with the KKK is they use pot-but because Sessions recused himself from Russia.
That was like the one thing he did right since he got there.
Only in a Trump White House can Jeff Sessions keep his job for lyin' to Congress but lose it for not obstructing justice.

“The NY Times has a new bombshell piece that reports that Comey had implored Sessions not to leave him alone with Trump-again. This was after Trump had already asked everyone else to leave the room in February where Trump then asked him to drop the Flynn case. Trump had told everyone to leave the room. Sessions had reportedly wanted to stay in but Trump ordered him out.”
“The day after President Trump asked James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director, to end an investigation into his former national security adviser, Mr. Comey confronted Attorney General Jeff Sessions and said he did not want to be left alone again with the president, according to current and former law enforcement officials.”
“Mr. Comey believed Mr. Sessions should protect the F.B.I. from White House influence, the officials said, and pulled him aside after a meeting in February to tell him that private interactions between the F.B.I. director and the president were inappropriate. But Mr. Sessions could not guarantee that the president would not try to talk to Mr. Comey alone again, the officials said.”
“His unwillingness to be alone with the president reflected how deeply Mr. Comey distrusted Mr. Trump, who Mr. Comey believed was trying to undermine the F.B.I.’s independence as it conducted a highly sensitive investigation into links between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia, the officials said. By comparison, Mr. Comey met alone at least twice with President Barack Obama.”
“The Justice Department typically walls off the White House from criminal investigations to avoid even the appearance of political meddling in law enforcement. But Mr. Trump has repeatedly injected himself in law enforcement matters, and never more dramatically than in his private meetings with Mr. Comey.”
“You have the president of the United States talking to the director of the F.B.I., not just about any criminal investigation, but one involving his presidential campaign,” said Matthew S. Axelrod, who served in senior Justice Department roles during the Obama administration and is now a partner at the law firm Linklaters. “That is such a sharp departure from all the past traditions and rules of the road.”
Now, though, the NYT voices the GOP talking point:
But that raises one of the questions Mr. Comey will have to answer in his testimony on Thursday. If he believed that Mr. Trump was trying to get him to end an investigation, why did he not tell anyone about it?”
I honestly don’t get this argument. Is it like ‘If she was sexually harassed she should have reported her boss the next morning?’
If Comey had quit that moment what purpose would have been served? Would that have stopped Trump form interfering? No-it would simply have relieved him of his problem as he could replace Comey with a Trump hack, his version of Nixon’s Pat Gray.
“Mr. Trump’s defenders note that Andrew G. McCabe, the acting director of the F.B.I., has said that “there has been no effort to impede our investigation.”
Question: how does McCabe know what Trump and Comey discussed?
“Current and former law enforcement officials say Mr. Comey kept his interactions with Mr. Trump a secret in part because he was not sure whom at the Justice Department he could trust.”
“F.B.I. officials were also unsure whether what Mr. Trump had done was a crime or how the conversation could be corroborated. So Mr. Comey kept the circle of officials at the F.B.I. who knew about his interactions with Mr. Trump small because he did not want agents and analysts working on the case to be influenced by what the president wanted.”
Just like with sexual predators-as Trump also is-there is a clear pattern as Dan Coats was also pushed by Trump to talk to Comey-as was NSA’s Mike Rogers.
“The nation’s top intelligence official told associates in March that President Trump asked him if he could intervene with then-FBI Director James B. Comey to get the bureau to back off its focus on former national security adviser Michael Flynn in its Russia probe, according to officials.”
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
