Voting Machine Hacks in 39 States Now Confirmed
Whatever you want to say about Reality Winner, it was clear at the time that her leaked NSA docs that showed the penetration of Russian hackers into our voting system was much deeper than previously understood was just the first drop in a coming rainstorm of information on it.
Despite the immediate attempt by the MSM to hand wave the new revelations from her docs as stuff we already knew-though, still, somehow worthy of arresting Reality Winner for leaking this uninteresting information we already knew all about-it became clear that what she leaked shook many intel experts as well. They certainly didn’t know it all already as I documented in the above link.
Now, there are new developments:
JUST IN: Trump Election Declared Phony After Voting Machine Hack Confirmed Across 39 States.”
“Although Russian hacking and influence in the 2016 presidential elections has already been confirmed and proven beyond a doubt, news released on Tuesday morning reveals that their efforts went far beyond what has been previously reported.”
Yes-what’s new, though, is that we now see that there was a serious cyberattack and penetration of our election system itself.
“According to Bloomberg, suspicions that Russian government operatives attempted to hack into U.S. voting machines to swing the election in Trump’s favor has now been confirmed in at least 39 states.”
Let’s go to Bloomberg, the source itself:
“Russia’s cyberattack on the U.S. electoral system before Donald Trump’s election was far more widespread than has been publicly revealed, including incursions into voter databases and software systems in almost twice as many states as previously reported.”
“In Illinois, investigators found evidence that cyber intruders tried to delete or alter voter data. The hackers accessed software designed to be used by poll workers on Election Day, and in at least one state accessed a campaign finance database. Details of the wave of attacks, in the summer and fall of 2016, were provided by three people with direct knowledge of the U.S. investigation into the matter. In all, the Russian hackers hit systems in a total of 39 states, one of them said.”
This led President Obama to call Putin directly on a real life ‘red phone.’ However, Mitch McConnell didn’t think that the public should have had any awareness of this fact: he rebuffed Obama’s call for a bipartisan statement against Russian hacking and interference.
Again, as I argued last week, Reality Winner is a hero, she’s a martyr for her country. She’s not a leaker but a whistleblower. Ahem:
“The new details, buttressed by a classified National Security Agency document recently disclosed by the Intercept, show the scope of alleged hacking that federal investigators are scrutinizing as they look into whether Trump campaign officials may have colluded in the efforts. But they also paint a worrisome picture for future elections: The newest portrayal of potentially deep vulnerabilities in the U.S.’s patchwork of voting technologies comes less than a week after former FBI Director James Comey warned Congress that Moscow isn’t done meddling.”
If not for Reality Winner, would we even be having this discussion?

That the meddling is not done is a real worry. But redressing the past is also vital.
But now this Bloomberg piece touches on my own pet peeve: blithe assurances that the result itself wasn’t effected:
“One of the mysteries about the 2016 presidential election is why Russian intelligence, after gaining access to state and local systems, didn’t try to disrupt the vote. One possibility is that the American warning was effective. Another former senior U.S. official, who asked for anonymity to discuss the classified U.S. probe into pre-election hacking, said a more likely explanation is that several months of hacking failed to give the attackers the access they needed to master America’s disparate voting systems spread across more than 7,000 local jurisdictions.”
How do we know beyond a reasonable doubt they didn’t? Simply lacking any smoking gun direct evidence that they did is not enough in this context with all the other facts we have.
Think Party of Treason is too strong?
Then-DHS Sec Jeh Johnson wanted to declare electoral systems as natl critical infrastructure so feds could intervene.

But my big pet peeve for now remains the assumption it didn’t effect the result. As I just said on Twitter:
Though it sounds like a Kantian proposition, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

So those are my big takeaways::
1. Reality Winner is a hero and martyr for her country-surely a good lawyer can make this case.
2. I’m still concerned about the assumption they didn’t actually alter the results. We had that study by data scientists in Wisconsin for instance that showed a notalbe discrepancy between Hillary’s numbers in machine voting districts and hand counted districts.
Ms. Winner-she has a great name, you have to admit-opened the floodgates. And we have yet seen just the tip of the iceberg.
P.S. As we saw in my poll out last week, the long awaited poll results are in, and right now I’m just 11 points down vs. Peter King (GOP-NY-District 2). And the voters don’t even know who I am yet.
There is nothing more important in getting answers to Trump-Russia collusion than a Democratic House in 2019. Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
