Allegiance to Power: There’s a New Political Espionage Novel About Trump
I often wonder about Tom Clancy: if he’s looking down from Writer Heaven right now what’s he saying?
Is he cursing God for the unfairness of taking him too soon-2013? Or is he relieved, reasoning that he could never have kept up with 2017 US political reality?
I assume Clancy is in Writer Heaven-can’t think of why he’d be in Writer Purgatory much less Writer Hell.
Truth is now clearly stranger than fiction. That’s the trouble with House of Cards-reality is now much more compelling. I haven’t watched it since the 2016 campaign begun.
A perspicacious observation about House of Cards is it’s basically a picture of the Right wing’s hate fantasies about the Clintons. Frank Lockhart is an evil Bill Clinton clone-and he, and not the GOP suppressed the vote in his election.
But none of this can compete with Watergate 2.0.
I wonder if even Tom Clancy could of. Well the writer, Steve Lee, has gone for it. And I’m just going to say it-he’s really good.
“ATTENTION READERS OF TOM CLANCY, VINCE FLYNN, BRAD THOR, DAVID BALDACCI, LEE CHILD, ETHAN JONES, AND WAYNE STINNETT. Russia is seeking to take advantage of the new American President while politically powerful supporters of the President are working to boost his sagging polls. The American and Russian goals collide on the world stage. Massive cyber and terrorist attacks are staged in the US and Europe by an organization covertly working for the Russian leadership while blackmailing the Americans.”
“ALLEGIANCE TO POWER is a fictional story built upon current events in the United States and the World.”
It may be fictional but it is in our Looking Glass age, a kind of realist fiction.
“The world is on the brink of war as a Russian conspiracy’s goal is to attribute the attacks to Iran. A former US Army captain and CIA counterintelligence agent (Troy Davis) was already working in partnership with the German Federal Intelligence(BND)to track Russian money laundering activities when he stumbles across parts of the Russian plot. The CIA and BND hatch a plan where Troy is placed under the BND and outside of US oversight by creating a new German identity for him as Robbie Stuhler. Robbie, working with his attractive German agent leads a German Special Forces unit to track down the international Russian conspiracy which takes them to Russia, South Africa, India, and Asia. The Americans are working with an International Consulting firm to address their requirements. Unknown to them, the Russians have covertly acquired the firm and secretly operating it as a Private Military Contractor (Sandcastle) using former Spetnaz and mercenaries with operations based in South Africa. Troy and his team are soon joined by INTERPOL and the South African military as they successfully attack and destroy the Sandcastle operations. Missions move to India to take down the Cyberattack software development operation. The success of that operation leads them to the final group of hackers in Malaysia. They arrive too late and find most of them have been executed. A single Chinese woman survives which leads to an encounter with a Chinese Colonel from the infamous software group in Shanghai.”
“While returning from Malaysia, he learns about the Russian/Chechen mastermind behind the attacks. They intercept him and his team in Berlin as they prepare to attack the American embassy. Intelligence gained from that operation reveal a pending attack at the Washington Reagan National Airport and locations across Europe. The Russian plan escalates when Iran reacts to news about their purported attack against the West. Iran has their own plan to leverage their relationship with North Korea and obtain three nuclear warheads. A partnership evolves between Robbie and the Chinese Colonel which bears results some days later when Robbie learns about a shipment of nuclear warheads from North Korea to Iran. From Chinese intelligence, he arranges to meet the North Korean scientist accompanying the warheads during a ship change in Sri Lanka. In exchange for sabotaging the warhead guidance systems, the scientist is granted asylum in the US and later retrieved by US Special Forces. The unintended consequences of the actions by a few Americans reach a climax as the American naval fleet comes into range of Iran’s nuclear tipped missiles. As the US Navy approaches the waters near Iran, Iran launches the missiles. Unfortunately for Russia and Iran, the missile do not hit their intended targets. Learn what happens next. Read this exciting novel from a new author.”
Wholly Jesus. It’s Steven Lee’s first work and what does he do for an encore?
Yet this seems less like a flight of fancy than a documentary in our 2017 America.
The only thing that maybe goes beyond plausibility-as if what is plausible hasn’t expanded greatly in the last two years-is the idea that Russia is behind the terrorist attacks. But honestly, hasn’t that thought at least crossed your mind?
I mean, many wondered if 9/11 were in some way a false flag. Ironically, Herr Trump himself played with that conspiracy theory during the primary.
And now Trump is at it again, with his mysterious ‘warning’ to Assad last night about using chemical weapons-that confounded even our own military leaders.
I don’t know about false flag but it certainly makes us think about wag the dog.
Again, it’s very hard for fiction to keep up with reality today. Every day there are just dozens of amazing headlines.
I mean I won’t even attempt to be exhaustive about the news stories of the last 15 hours but here are a few:
Trump's lawyer is also a Ponzi scheme crook. Would be surprised if he wasn't

Then we have Carter Page speaking to the FBI for 10 hours in March without a lawyer.
This is a very smart strategy assuming he lied about nothing.
Speaking of Carter Page, RT seems to be getting the same amnesia members of the Trump WH get about Sergey Kisylak.

We have Trump against the advice of his staff meeting with Putin next month. We have Jared Kushner hiring one of the top criminal defense attorneys in the country last night.
Why? Probably for all kinds of reasons-one perhaps being the news that VEB, his favorite Russian bank, isn’t a bank at all but was just a front for Putin’s cash.
Again, not at all exhaustive-there are many, many stories I can’t include here-for that you need a machine.
But here is a new, notable genre of Trump apologetics by Brit Hume:
This will make you angry. And it damn well should. This is why we need to stay frosty on Trump-Russia. https://t.co/H6CPmJOKht

With all this talk about a political espionage book about Trump, this enigmatic comment by Britt Hume reminds me of OJ Simpson’s novel: If I did it.
P.S. So the Gravis poll against Peter King NY2 and it has good news-almost too good to believe.
In my March poll I trailed King by 11 and thought that was very good news. Now Gravis has me up by 10? Still, the moment of truth is next week when Gravis writes up the press release.
I can use any help I can get at this point-volunteers or supporters who live in NY 2. Donations whatever your zip code. These days we can’t just support a local Dem we need a Dem Congress. Which is why I’ve donated few hundred to Jon Ossoff.
Please donate to help me in my part of the effort to fight for a Dem House-$5 or $10 can do so much.
If you feel that you can’t I, of course, understand-who is rich these days? But please do me one favor: ask yourself privately, mentally, if you really can’t spare $5 dollars. If you can honestly say you can’t, no worries.
We can have a Dem Congress, we must have a Dem Cogress, and we will.
Thank you. We must have a Dem House. And so, we will.
