Let’s be Clear: Senate Trumpcare is Down but it’s not out Yet
Great victory. It was very enjoyable watching Mitch McConnell have to beat a tactical retreat.
“Senate Republicans had no inkling of what they were walking into on Tuesday afternoon as they filed into the Mike Mansfield room on the Capitol’s second floor.”
“Mitch McConnell’s 51 colleagues, from his most junior members to his closest lieutenants, fully expected the Senate to vote this week on the Senate GOP’s wounded Obamacare repeal bill. They knew the whip count was far worse than advertised but were ready for McConnell to either admit defeat or start a furious round of deal-making to try to win their support. They took McConnell at his word that a vote would occur, regardless of the result.”
Then the Kentucky Republican shocked them all as he dispassionately informed them at the top of the meeting that the vote would be delayed, and that he would continue the painful exercise of trying to get 50 of the caucus’ 52 votes for Obamacare repeal.
Never mind that McConnell and his team had previously made clear that they did not believe letting the bill hang out over the July 4 recess would improve the result of the perilous negotiations.
“It’s different from what he said … yesterday afternoon as late as 5:30 p.m.,” said a Republican senator.
But as Nancy Pelosi warned last night-it’s not over.
“Inside the GOP’s surprise health care flop.”
“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell shocked Washington by punting on a vote to repeal Obamacare, but he’s still searching for a way to revive the bill.”
And that’s the real key-it’s not over. We’ve been here before. Paul Ryan also failed in March. But, that failure gave him the space to buy time and next thing you know he and Donald Trump were hugging on the WH lawn.
What we can’t do is take off the pressure. If the pressure is taken off, then the Senate GOPers will vote for it.

Very true. We can’t let up now. We have to keep pushing as hard as ever. Make a list of all the Republicans that said they’re against this bill now and warn them not to let Mitch McConnell whip them back on line.
Ron Johnson just said Rs will buy off moderates with a bit of added money.

The good news is that since we’ve been here before, Dems are not falling into the same false sense of security as after the initial implosion of the House bill. Though it’s true, Paul Ryan had a larger majority and a larger margin for error.
Still, it’s not over till it’s over-and it’s not over.
And the Dems know this:
“Among the opposition, no one is declaring victory. Opponents of the bill recognize this setback for the GOP may be temporary, not permanent. “It’s not over till it’s over and it’s not dead until it’s dead,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) told the Atlantic. Van Hollen runs the Democratic party’s campaign wing in the Senate.”
“Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman Dave Bergstein put out a statement Tuesday, saying, “Republicans will not stop until they force Americans to pay more for less care. They’ll now retreat back behind closed doors … ” MoveOn and Indivisible are continuing their planned protests at the U.S. Capitol this week. Grassroots organizers in Nevada and Maine, home to moderate Republican senators who could be the deciding votes on a health care bill, told Mic they will keep up the pressure.”
The Much Worse Care Reconciliation bill is in critical condition but we must not stop till we pull the plug. This monstrosity must be buried in a deep, dark, grave.
Anyone who had anything to do with voting for it should be drummed out of public life, full stop.
P.S. Speaking of someone who voted for it, as I revealed in earlier posts, the media release from Gravis Marketing is out for my surprising poll vs. Peter King. Surprising as I-as a heretofore unknown-lead him by 10 points. I know, but the numbers don’t lie.
If you believe that 25 years is enough for an arrogant monarch who is a Republican first and an American second please help me any way you can. If you live in the area you can volunteer-or at least tell everyone you know. And no matter where you are in the country, donations help.
