On Franken and Conyers Richard Painter is One Republican Democrats SHOULD Listen To
This is the time to listen to a Republican and Painter is that Republican.
I have argued the last few days this was coming: so now we have multiple charges against both Al Franken and Congressman John Conyers.
If you think these claims coming out now is a coincidence you don’t know the GOP too well. There is a strand of progressives who just want to start forcing the resignation of any Democrat accused of anything-before any facts are gathered. We should force resignations now and ask questions never.
This is the structural ambiguity in the #MeToo movement that some people like Brian Beutler have warned about. If you have to believe women this also can mean that even false or misleading charges in Right wing outlets can lead to resignations before any facts are gathered.
Some seem to think that if Democrats show themselves to truly be pure this will force the GOP to do the same. These are not people familiar with the modern Republican party. Listen to Richard Painter who is-he’s a long time Republican:
Send this to Office of Cong. Ethics.
Dems can impose a higher standard on their own and force resignations but GOP won't follow suit. Look at Alabama. And Trump.

So we’re in the situation where what? Al Franken and Conyers will resign, Roy Moore will get a Senate seat, Donald Trump will keep the WH and David Vitter-rememeber him?-will keep his seat. And Clarence Thomas will keep his seat on the Supreme Court-which is perhaps the most powerful seat of all seeing as how dysfunctional the WH and Congress are.
This IS the GOP setup and by the way: Mike Cernovich is who released this info. The plan is to get the Democrats to force Democrats to resign while the worst of the worst in the GOP get to keep their seats

Yes that Mike Cernovich, Pizzagate Mike Cernovich. This is just like the DNC leaks all over again. The hope is for us to focus just on what is leaked not who leaked it and why?
Obviously Cernovich had a reason for leaking only on Conyers-there are Republicans who have paid off accusers as well.
“Cernovich — a controversial far-right figure who has promoted blatantly false conspiracy theories, such as the discredited “Pizzagate” hoax — was the source of a big BuzzFeed scoop Monday night. The popular news and features website reported that legendary liberal Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) made repeated sexual advances toward female staffers and secretly reached a financial settlement with one accuser. The story was based largely on documents and affidavits supplied by Cernovich to BuzzFeed’s reporters.”
And how did Cernovich acquire this information? Yes, he paid for them-which is considered journalistically suspect.
“The agreement between Cernovich and BuzzFeed appears to have come with a hidden facet: Cernovich acquired the congressional documents after offering to pay $10,000 for them.”
“The offer was made in a series of now-deleted tweets last week. “I will pay $10,000 for the details of these settlements. Cash or Bitcoin or check or whatever you want,” he tweeted.
“Cernovich declined Tuesday to say whether he actually paid anyone; he also said he didn’t know whether BuzzFeed knew about his offer.”
“BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith said Tuesday he was not aware of the offer. A BuzzFeed spokesman said the site “would never pay for information,” adding, “We also aren’t going to discuss or engage in hypotheticals that could in any way shed light on the identity of sources.”
“Mainstream news organizations like BuzzFeed consider paying sources an ethically dubious practice because it can induce sources to say more than they know and because it creates incentives for sources to engage in potentially criminal behavior to obtain information. But there is no prohibition on a news organization accepting information that a third party, such as Cernovich, has paid for.”
Although is it in truth a distinction that truly makes any difference?
Let’s not lose sight of the big picture. This is all about Roy Moore. And this is helping him to the extent that it diverts and creates the cynical reaction formation: ‘
Ok so they all do it, so what different does it make? I don’t want a liberal in the Senate so I might as well vote for Roy Moore.
Hillary spoke of this in her own book What Happened. Trump’s strategy was always to take others down to his level, drag them through the mud. As Hillary noted, this actually helps those who are truly corrupt by making others who may not be perfect but who are not totally corrupt and basically well meaning down to Trump’s own level.
The paradox is total cynicism about politicians helps the worst and most corrupt among us.
Again, mark Richard Painter’s words. On the same day that an ethics query is being opened against Conyers, Trump is defending Roy Moore.
“Trump throws Roy Moore a lifeline.”
Again, let’s be clear about the two step. At the same time that the Republicans selectively target any Democrats with any allegations against them, they embrace their own predators and pedophiles even more tightly .
I want to be clear about one thing: I believe there IS an epidemic of sexual harassment and assault in our country today. Something must be done about it.
As a candidate for Congress in the NY2 District I propose a sexual harassment taskforce that studies this in great deal with manifold perspectives so we can get a handle on just how bad it is and what is to be done.
But at the same time you can’t ignore the partisan dimension of this. This is hardly the first time the GOP has managed to use the basic decency of most Democrats against us.
But it’s time to smarten up and catch up with this.
P.S. I’m Mike Sax, I’m running for Congress in the NY 2nd District and I’m a Hillary Clinton Democrat.
Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
And please donate so we can compete with Peter King’s $4 million. I know no lobbyists or millionaires like Peter King. Small donations are the engine of the Mike Sax NY2 campaign. Together we can do it. Because we must.
