Senate Tax Bill is Actually ACA Repeal and They’re Dangerously Close to Passing it
It’s the healthcare destroying zombie who keeps coming back from the dead. The House GOP tax bill was bad as it ended ‘loopholes’ that benefit nonrich people-state and local taxes, student debt, elder care, etc.
It was a very bad, sharply regressive tax bill. The Senate version is worse. And the pain on nonrich taxpayers is astronomical. This is because it’s actually Obamacare repeal all over again.

The key is the mandate repeal. Of course, the pain that will come from this will only be felt in in the future. In the first few years little will change. This is why someone making $30,000 per year will see a tax cut of $3000 dollars in 2019 but a tax hike of $17,000 in 2027.
The GOP House bill was a deeply regressive GOP tax bill. About as bad as it gets but what you’d expect. But the Senate has made this a catastrophe by turning it into another bite at the apple of Obamacare repeal.
But here’s the worry: they are very close to closing this deal. They want it done by the end of this week.
“Senate Republicans are blowing through several yellow lights on their way to approving their enormous tax package.”
“The bill cleared another critical checkpoint Wednesday, when all 52 Republican senators voted to begin debating it. The move puts the GOP on track to approve the measure by the end of the week, even as a handful of Republicans maneuver to make major changes.”
“The state of flux means GOP leaders have yet to lock in the support they need. But the clip at which the proposal is moving reflects a decision to embrace speed as a means of eschewing closer scrutiny from stakeholders, nonpartisan scorekeepers and wavering members of their own party.”
This is a time when Trump’s lack of discipline, and all the spills on aisle floor he causes actually helps. The last 24 hours the MSM has been talking about:
1. Trump RTing a racist anti Muslim tweet.
2. Michael Flynn and Jared Kushner
3. Matt Lauer and other sexual harassment cases.
My argument is NOT that any of these don’t deserve to be front page issues. But while legitimate they have the effect of sucking all the air in the room from this shocking attack on the income and healthcare of millions of nonrich Americans.
In fact 83 million will see their taxes rise under this terrible, bad, no good GOP tax bill that’s really Obamacare repeal under another name.
And this has gotten very little coverage. The fact that the GOP Senate has this monstrosity on the Senate floor now and fully intend to pass it at the end of the week should be a five car alarm emergency.
But where is it being treated as such?
P.S. I’m Mike Sax, I’m running for Congress in the NY 2nd District and I’m a Hillary Clinton Democrat.
Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
And please donate so we can compete with Peter King’s $4 million. I know no lobbyists or millionaires like Peter King. Small donations are the engine of the Mike Sax NY2 campaign. Together we can do it. Because we must.
