During Campaign FBI Warned Trump Campaign About Russian Infiltration
Ok. So one thought about all the news dumps yesterday about the Russia investigation and Mueller is like Chuck Schumer said when he was on Rachel Maddow: don’t mess with the intelligence agencies.
In the last few days Trump and his GOP enablers have been making some very serious and slanderous charges against both the FBI and the Mueller investigation. I read all the news we received about the Mueller investigation yesterday as major blowback.
1. Mueller’s team-which doesn’t do an authorized leaks-came out first with a direct response to the insinuations of Trump team that somehow obtaining the transition emails was untoward much less ‘illegal’ as the Trumpsters claimed.
“Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office is not staying silent following explosive accusations by a lawyer for President Donald Trump’s transition team that the investigators looking into claims of collusion with Moscow during the campaign unlawfully received tens of thousands of emails from the General Services Administration.”
“A source tells Axios that the transition team will be sending a letter to Mueller asking for some emails to be returned because they’re privileged. “What they did is totally illegal, and they need to fix it,” the source said. But Mueller’s team begs to differ. “When we have obtained emails in the course of our ongoing criminal investigation, we have secured either the account owner’s consent or appropriate criminal process,” Mueller spokesman Peter Carr said.
2. In other news we learn that the Trump campaign was warned Russia would try to infiltrate the campaign.
“The briefings were led by counterintelligence specialists from the FBI, the sources said. They were timed to occur around the period when the candidates began receiving classified intelligence, the officials said, which put them at greater risk for being targeted by foreign spies. Trump’s first intelligence briefing as Republican nominee was Aug. 17, 2016, sources told NBC News at the time.”
“Trump was “briefed and warned” at the session about potential espionage threats from Russia, two former law enforcement officials familiar with the sessions told NBC News. A source close to the White House said their position is that Trump was unaware of the contacts between his campaign and Russians.”
Here’s my question: would this story be coming out NOW if not for Trump’s recent attacks on the FBI and the Mueller investigation? Picking a fight with the FBI is never a great strategy.
“The situation was complicated by the fact that the FBI had already become aware of contacts between members of the Trump campaign and Russia, and was beginning to investigate further. Former CIA Director John Brennan has said he told the FBI about a pattern of contacts the CIA observed between members of the Trump team and Russians, and former FBI Director James Comey said the bureau then began investigating in July 2016.”
By the time of the warning in late July or August, at least seven Trump campaign officials had been in contact with Russians or people linked to Russia, according to public reports. There is no public evidence that the campaign reported any of that to the FBI.
Don Jr did NOT heed this warning:
“After the FBI warning, the candidate’s son, Donald Trump Jr., exchanged Twitter messages in September with Wikileaks, which the U.S. intelligence community publicly accused in October of acting as an agent in Russia’s covert operation to interfere in the election.”
3. In still more Trump-Russia news the Mueller investigation is now making it clear that it is NOT wrapping up anytime soon-contrary to the Trump legal team who’ve been suggesting it is near the end.
“People with knowledge of the investigation said it could last at least another year and members of Mueller’s team have told others they expect to be working through much of 2018, at the minimum.” https://t.co/f34I2BVbYv

Again Mueller doesn’t have unauthorized leaks. You think this is an accident the day after this smear about the transition emails?
P.S. I’m Mike Sax, I’m running for Congress in the NY 2nd District and I’m a Hillary Clinton Democrat.
Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
And please donate so we can compete with Peter King’s $4 million. I know no lobbyists or millionaires like Peter King. Small donations are the engine of the Mike Sax NY2 campaign. Together we can do it. Because we must.
