Nonrecused Devin Nunes is Leading a Coordinated GOP Effort to Obstruct the Russia Probe
Yesterday we looked at how Devin Nunes-who was supposed to have recused himself-is still largely leading the House Intelligence panel’s part of the Russia investigation.
As he continues to run the investigation behind the scenes, Deutsche Bank-Trump’s one Wall St bank that has been wiling to give him loans over the last 17 years; the bank has also recently been fined $650 million dollars for taking dirty Russian money-has not been subpoenaed but Fusion GPS’s bank has been subpoenaed.
“A group of House Republicans has gathered secretly for weeks in the Capitol in an effort to build a case that senior leaders of the Justice Department and FBI improperly — and perhaps criminally — mishandled the contents of a dossier that describes alleged ties between President Donald Trump and Russia, according to four people familiar with their plans.”
“A subset of the Republican members of the House intelligence committee, led by Chairman Devin Nunes of California, has been quietly working parallel to the committee’s high-profile inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. They haven’t informed Democrats about their plans, but they have consulted with the House’s general counsel.”
“The people familiar with Nunes’ plans said the goal is to highlight what some committee Republicans see as corruption and conspiracy in the upper ranks of federal law enforcement. The group hopes to release a report early next year detailing their concerns about the DOJ and FBI, and they might seek congressional votes to declassify elements of their evidence.”
“That final product could ultimately be used by Republicans to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into whether any Trump aides colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign — or possibly even to justify his dismissal, as some rank-and-file Republicans and Trump allies have demanded. (The president has said he is not currently considering firing Mueller.)”
You might notice I chose a picture for this post where Nunes is with my Congressional opponent Peter King. This is because King has lately much more blatantly been in the obstructionist caucus. He’s leading a parallel investigation into the fake Uranium One scandal.
He’s also been in on this parallel investigation of the FBI and DOJ-the Dems on the Intelligence Committee have been left totally in the dark:
“It’s unclear how many members of the intelligence committee are participating in the side effort. Lawmakers on the full committee interviewed by POLITICO refused to discuss it.”
“I don’t talk about what we do behind closed doors,” said Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), who’s leading the intelligence committee’s bipartisan Russia probe. “I’m not going to talk about that,” said Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), another member of the panel.
But it shouldn’t be behind closed doors in the first place. You can’t get out of beating my wife by saying you don’t talk about what you do behind closed doors. And what they are doing here is clear obstruction.
We all need keep the focus on Trump crimes. Benghazi was a nothingburger, this is a nothingburger. The @GOP must pay 😈😈😈👺👹

Then you have the outrageous Trump apologist Jim Jordan:
What is interesting now is that the entire GOP Congress is now officially the party of Trump. The so-called moderates like Bob Corker and Susan Collins have been unmasked.
After GOP tax reform scam it's time to retire the moderate Republican myth https://t.co/bDoKeKPHoL

Lately I’ve noticed even Republicans who were previously critical of Trump-Lindsay Graham, Bob Corker, Jeff Flake-have changed their tune. They are all marching to the beat of their Dear Leader now.
And the GOPers are more blatantly talking and acting in ways clearly obstructive of Trump-Russia. What’s going on? I think a big part of the explanation is that Trump is finally now beginning to deliver for them.
Now they are jubilantly talking about cutting Social Security and Medicare-and per the linked Politico piece talking about a consumption tax.
Sure-whatever hurts the nonrich and the poor the most is their favored kind of tax.
This is why people need to stop just saying Mueller will solve everything. He’s important but the Congressional oversight we need for Trump on Russia-and other issues like emoluments, and mass deportations-won’t come without a Democratic Congress.
P.S. I’m Mike Sax, I’m running for Congress in the NY 2nd District and I’m a Hillary Clinton Democrat.
Meeting her recently was one of the biggest honors in my life to stand next to such a fine public servant and trailblazer. She seemed to like our Impeachment Train campaign t shirts too!
Think of the shirt as a one time investment in restoring legitimacy to this country.
And please donate so we can compete with Peter King’s $4 million. I know no lobbyists or millionaires like Peter King. Small donations are the engine of the Mike Sax NY2 campaign. Together we can do it. Because we must.
