I Will be in Brentwood This Afternoon for an Update on Mike Sax for Congress Campaign
UPDATE: This event actually is being postponed until Friday at 5 pm per the request of the outlets. See you then!
It will be in front of the Dunkin Donuts on 799 Suffolk Ave in Brentwood at 4 PM. Various media-Newsday, FIOS, News 12-should be there.
Ok-those of you who regularly read my Facebook page already know that I recently suspended my campaign and endorsed DuWayne Gregory.
“When I as a newbie candidate decided to run for Congress in district NY2 it was because I believed it was time for regular people to get involved. And that we need a check on Trump from a Dem Congress, that we need to raise wages for American workers and because as someone from a multiracial family I was offended by Trump’s xenophobia as I understand our diversity is our strength.”
“In short I threw my hat into the ring in order to reclaim the American Dream which will not happen until we raise wages. Which is why I am calling for a new New Deal.”
“Just as FDR had the first New Deal in the 20th century to deal with the transition of workers from farms to factories today we need a New Deal for the 21s century as workers have moved from the factories to the low wage service sector.”
“Over the last 10 months I’ve gotten to speak with many of my fellow constituents and seen that there is a real hunger to take our country back and reclaim the American Dream.”
“As big a menace as Trump is to our democratic system of government he is the symptom not the cause. Until we raise wages xenophobia and and authoritarianism will raise its ugly head again and again.”
But I then went on to talk about how I’d come to think that Presiding Officer Gregory was best positioned to end Peter King’s 25 year reign. Yes he did come up short in 2016 but this time he has a very impressive multi racial and multi ethnic grassroots coalition with him.
Again, as someone from a multi racial family I appreciate that our diversity is our strength. Certainly if we are going to finally end Peter ‘King Hamlet’s 25 year reign-I call him Peter King Hamlet as he’s always waffling and refusing to tell us his real position on issues-the Democratic candidate will need a multi ethnic coalition.
I also was impressed by his performance at the recent meet and greet we attended.
That’s me on the left, naturally! For the record a number of folks approached me after the Q&A too and were-in all due modesty-quite impressed. Many were like ‘Gee, Mike I didn’t know you before’ or ‘I knew of you mostly through Facebook’ but then they went on to say ‘But I’m really liked your presentation and am intrigued by your ideas…’
My idea that we have a low wage epidemic in our country-as a result of automation-and that we need a new New Deal to end it found a lot of resonance and interest in the campaign.
Again, the New Deal or New Deal 2.0 is composed of three constituent parts:
1. A job guarantee (JG)
2. A universal basic income (UBI)
3. Increasing and expanding the Earned Income Tax credit (EITC).
Whoever the Democratic candidate in NY2 emerges as, it is vital that we raise wages or else there will be more Trumplike events.
In any case, yes, I did already suspend/endorse but today will be formal statement where I will also opine on NY2 Congressional race going forward a little.
One way or the other I think what I will say will open things up just a little bit!
As to what I will say-well, tune in at 4 PM today!
